Thought you guys might get a kick out of some rare photos of a pair of baby hummingbirds in nest. She built the nest on a support right outside of our guest cabin over the doorway. Going in and out doesn't seem to disturb her.

Neato SB!
I found a Hummer nest next to a creek I used to camp by with my brother quite a few years ago.
There were 2 eggs in it & we went back every weekend to check on 'em until they finally flew the nest.(4-5 weeks IIRC)
The last weekend they were in the nest friday night & saturday morning when we got up they were gone.
It sure was cool to watch the growth progression of the chicks.
Thanks for the pics & sparking the memory, very cool.

Hummers are so cool. I found one almost dead in our wearhouse a couple years ago. Made him a home in a box in my office. Fed the little guy sugar water for two days out of a small cup. By closing the second day he was all better and I let him go outside. Needless to say, many of my coworkers thought I was crazy.

Thanks for the cool pix SB:thumbup:
I put my feeders out April 15 every year, and they are a blast to watch!

very cool, I spent a quite few minutes yesterday watching a Martin bird swooping and scaring one of our cats, it was fun,

Thanks, guys. Hummers are fun to watch, but this is my first time seeing them nest. They usually nest high in the Ponderosa Pines we have here and not visible.

Unfortunately, we had to quit putting out feeders once the bears found them. The bears almost destroyed my deck trying to get to them. It is "interesting" to see a couple of 250+ lb. black bears on your deck, mere feet away, just outside a set of french doors, ripping awnings, supports and railing to pieces.

It used to be a real pleasure to sit on my deck and watch the hummers come around. I had 4 feeders with 4 stations on each and set up a perch as well. The 18" perch would be wall-to-wall hummingbirds (belies the ole myth that hummingbirds never perch!) and each station would have one feeding plus those hovering nearby. I've had as many as (as best as I could count) over 80 at a time. And I would sit right there, amongst them. Darn bears stopped all that. :(

Well done! We would have done the same.

Very cool pics! The first time I saw one was around a Butterfly Bush I planted in one of the beds outside my daughters window. When I first saw it, I actually thought it was a gigantic bee until it hit me that bees don't get quite that large! :p

Very cool! I love watching the humming birds and others that come to our feeders.

I have never seen a hummingbird nest - thanks for the cool pictures!

My mom taught me all about hummers. She raised birds and sold them for years. We would get up every morning and have our cups of coffee and 5 or so cigarettes on the front porch together. There were always at least 2 humming bird feeders going at a time. We watched those little guys playing, eating, fighting and loving. Unfortunately, I lost my mom last year to lung cancer, but I have some incredible memories of all those mornings on our front porch. :)

Sorry for your loss Jamboi & thanks for sharing those memories.
I love watching birds, any birds & am envious of their flight.

I've never seen a nest either. Very cool.
Karen recently took these pics while she had one eating out of her hand. She actually had a couple of them land on her hand while eating from the capful of sugar water. She says the feel of their tiny feet is much different than she expected.

WOW Mack! That is awesome! Thanks for those cool pix:thumbup:
Mine buzz by my head when I change their feeders...

Cool pictures, Mack!!

That is cool.

I do know that they know that I am the guy that feeds them - they sit out there and chirp while I am cleaning and refilling the feeders -

It looks like you get a different breed of hummingbird than we see here in Illinois.

Sorry for the loss of your Mom. Losing a parent is tough but it is good to have great memories. Those memories of all those mornings seem like they would be especially good ones. I treasure memories of my Dad and things we did together.

How cool. When we used to sit on our deck watching those little guys they seemed fearless. Those are neat pictures. :)

You're right. They know. When wife would go outside they ignored her but would come buzzing down out of the trees when I came out with fresh feeders.

We have several different breeds up here in the mountains. We're evidently in their migration path as they come and go at different times of the year.
