Hey everyone! I posted a while ago looking for a new EDC. Life happened and I went through a rough financial patch. While things aren't perfect right now, they certainly are looking optimistic! I'm back and ready to find a new EDC/duty knife!

I am looking for a knife to carry on duty as well as at home so I can remain familiar with it in case of an emergency while at work. I am looking for a NON assisted knife with a blade at or under 3 inches (work requirements, can't budge from these). It must be able to withstand some abuse and must be tip down. I had a Spyderco Delica and didn't like the feel...felt kind of weak for heavy use. I also had a few Benchmades and did not like the tip up carry or the axis lock. My budget is 100 USD. I already squeezed my finances to raise my budget to 100, so I cannot go any higher.

I apologize for being so picky! Life has got me down, so I though the good folks on this forum could help me pick a new blade!

Also, thanks to BearMGCHafter for sending me a de-assisted Kershaw wharncliffe that got me through my rough patch! Very kind of him and I fully appreciate it!

Spyderco Native 5 Lightweight is probably the best you're going to do with your criteria. That or the Cold Steel Mini Lawman with the XHP blade.

Lawman is tip up only though. Most people prefer tip up carry.

Spyderco Native 5 Lightweight ($80) is a really good choice. A Benchmade Mini-Griptilian would also be a solid choice at around $80.

+1 on the Native 5 LW. It's stout folder with great steel and lockup. Benchmade Mini-Griptillian is also a great option (however it's tip up only), another option is the Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 (also tip up only carry).

I don't have any experience with Cold Steel, but you get CTS-XHP and a super stout locking mechanism at under $100. G10 will also be sturdier than FRN.

For something mere heavy duty I've got to recommend the Cold Steels as has been suggested most of the models come in a mini that would fit your requirements plus they are going to be much more heavy duty than the spyderco options.

sounds like you need a fixed blade-is rapid deployment a factor? if not there's a world of traditionals out there. try looking at a.g. russell's,the company brand.good prices and lengths, most can be bought with belt sheath.i would say a mini-cqc7 or a cqc-14 snubby but i'm pretty sure those are out of your price range.(sux bein' po' ,donut?)i know there are some folding models out there with either a 3 or 4 way positional clip but i just can't think of them right now.

Department doesn't allow fixed blade, unfortunately. Thank you to all who suggested Benchmade, but as I said in my original post, I don't care too much for Benchmade.

Well, I was going to suggest a Spyderco Delica or Centofante 3 or Benchmade Mini Presidio Ultra. But since you don't like Benchmades, didn't like the Delica and thought the Delica felt too light duty and the Centofante is also a lightweight knife....

About the only 3" or less models I've owned that I could fully recommend would be the Native 5 LW or Small Sebenza. The Native is sorta/kinda Delica duty weight and the Sebenza is over the budget. How about a Spyderco Persistence? Meets the budget, feels more substantial than Delica type knives, well made for a lower priced knife, has full Spyderco warranty. Only downside for some people is that it's Chinese made of 8Cr13.

Cold Steel Tuff Lite. Great office EDC, blade well under 3 inches, tip down carry, great ergos, darn near indestructible and bloody cheap. Not the best steel ever, but the wharncliffe blade is very, very easy to resharpen.
