Got back from my Tahoe camping trip yesterday. The trip was waaay too short, but entirely enjoyable and sorely needed nonetheless. It was nice to relax, breathe fresh air, and escape for a bit from noise-pollution. The weather was fantastic as well, couldn't have asked for better.
We did a little hiking up the Taylor Creek near the campsite, and the Rubicon Trail (which was pleasantly empty because of the overcast and drizzly day). I had wanted to do a hike up in the surrounding mountains (to Lake Aloha or Velma Lakes), but it was a bit too ambitious for the rest of the party. The Rubicon Trail was excellent though, definitely exceeded my expectations. On Sunday, we squeezed a few hours of kayaking in, which was a ton of fun. The rest of the time was spent walking along the Tahoe shore, or just hanging at the campsite.
Had a lot of cutlery along for the trip. My NWA Sierra Scout was on my belt all weekend, definitely moved up to "favorite knife" position
Also had a Vic Spirit on the belt as well that came in useful quite a few times . The Sierra Scout was up to tackle any task I encountered, but I also had a heap of other cutlery along of course
BK9, F1, and Wave in the car emergency kit. My Izula lives on my hiking pack strap, a Silky saw lives in the pack, and the W&SS Necker is a permanent part of my PSK. I also brought along my RC4, Vic Farmer, and Ritter Mini-Grip (EDC along with Leatherman Skeletool). So I was pretty well covered for the weekend though I'm now in the market for a good hatchet or small forest axe; I ran into quite a few tough and knotty seasoned oak logs that were just too tough to baton through even with my BK9.
The first night, I got the fire going with just a firesteel and PJCBs, I did accelerate it with some fatwood. The second night, we returned to camp late from the Rubicon Trail and it was getting pretty chilly, so I wasted no time and went straight to the zippo. It was pretty basic car camping, and the trip was short, so unfortunately I didn't have a ton of time to practice skills...but I still managed to squeeze some in with the firestarting and knot-tying and a little trap making in the down time. Mainly, it was just nice to get outside and recharge my batteries..
Anyway, just wanted to share a few pics with y'all, so here we go
