Did you miss me???

Spent the past 9 days in a rented house at lake Umbagog in Maine...It' was sincerely beautiful, it is part of an area that is referred to as the Great North woods Region..While staying in a rented home is far from "roughing it" this area is probably one of the most remote areas I've been to in a while with what seemed like unending stretches of untouched forest...The house itself was on the lake (16 miles long) I could barely drop a line in the water from the back yard without pulling up a small mouth or a pickerel...Literally no more than 5 casts without a hit...most were on the smaller side but no doubt there mom's and dads where lurking in the more unaccessible regions...Both bald eagles and ospreys where easily viewable from the back yard..and the haunting calls of loons could be heard through the mist in the early morning (one of my favorite woods sounds) Spotted 11 moose and a black bear while we where up there as well. I was with the wife and sprout, which somewhat limited my real down and dirty bushtime, but I spent at least 2 hours a day working on traps, fire skills, and playing around with a throwing stick...I must have made about 100 deadfalls of different types and a bunch of snares utilizing different triggers...I also got to play around alit with usung natural tinders (old mans beard is a lot of fun..and my wife and I had some throwing stick competitions while the sprout took a nap..all in all it was a really awesome trip. I spent alot of time using a knife while working on my little contraptions..and the only knife I used throughout my whole trip was my buck 112 ranger...granted I wasn't survivng but it did a heck of alot of whittling for traps and fires, and cleaned it's share of fish..and stayed razor sharp with a little stropping... I was initially worried about the hollow grind but it held up nice, even made a decent fire board..I impressed with the little bugger... for sure... well glad to be back folks.

Welcome back John.

Sounds like you're having an excellent summer. Good for you and your family.

While you're out on your next adventure, see if you can find some paragraphs.

Or were they stolen along with the pictures?

Brian, isn't there some kind of official reprimand for a trip report with no pictures? Obviously, you know better. :D

Sorr for my lack of grammar. I'm always in the middle of 10 things when I sit down to write...I am actually an aspiring writer and have 2 books and about 50 stories under my belt..(none published) my sister is an English professor She does my proof reading for me ..She says it's a night mare but is a labor of love.

Sounds great Riley but like everyone else says, we need pics man !!!!!

Amazing what you can achieve without a mega dollar knife eh !!!

Enjoy your camping !!!!!!!!

It doesn't even have to be grammatically correct. I think we're just too used to getting our information in little sound bites. When there aren't those frequent breaks, our eyes start to glaze over. :(

How were the bugs? In some places up here they wear black leather jackets and smoke Camel straights.
