Guys, just in a short time ago from the Blade Show so I've got a bit of decompressing and sobering up to do.
After having missed the last few this was a great event because I was able to connect with many friends both old and new. (So much so that I rarely spent much time looking at knives even though that was the pretext for attending.)
I can't begin to tell you how much fun I had with Gus and Gig (the snitch
) as well as Tony and Reese Bose and their posse consisting of Kerry and his much better and prettier half, Randy W., FastEddie and a bunch of others.
It was also fun working the airwaves and getting updates and the rumor mill churning with Mike Robuck.
And lastly but definitely not least, major props to Vince (and his lovely wife) for putting up with a gag phone call I put through to him yesterday evening while having dinner with the Bose Brigade. Vince is a great guy and a great sport.
I'll definitely post more about the Show and all.
In brief I'll say this:
Gus scored big time. He can fill in the details but his taste and great relationship with makers is and was rewarded with a bevy of incredible beauties.
Gig scored at least one major beauty as well from a maker who is a mutual friend that we respect greatly.
I ended up with three new knives.
A Queen/Ontario/RAT "Surveyor Stockman" that was given to me as a gift by my long time friend Jeff Randall.
A small fixed blade by Charles May. 3" D2 blade, canvas micarta scales, leather sheath.
The real prize (knifewise) for me was winning the opportunity to purchase a beautiful knife by Reese Bose. (This after having pulled Gus' name out of the hat at the Chamblin table and watching Joe (canineforge) pull the lucky rabbit out of the hat at both Chamblin and Richard Rogers' tables. (I'll let him tell the story when he gets back online. He and his wife were a real pleasure to meet and spend time with at the show.)
I was lucky enough to win the Rodgers Wharncliffe Whittler by Reese Bose. This one features black buffalo horn scales and blades of ATS-34. The knife is stunning and you can imagine my surprise when my name was called with only about three knives remaining unclaimed on the Bose table. What a kick!
(Pix of the knife are here on the forum from Kerry and also in the Custom Folder section of my knife pix. Link is below my sig.)
Randy W. was able to score big time with the purchase of an awesome knife by Tony that had been won by another individual, plus he may have scored one or two others. A sly fox that Randy.
Anyway, I'm gonna cut it short here as I'm a bit toasted but we'll fill in the gaps as we go forward from here.
