Guys, just in a short time ago from the Blade Show so I've got a bit of decompressing and sobering up to do. ;)

After having missed the last few this was a great event because I was able to connect with many friends both old and new. (So much so that I rarely spent much time looking at knives even though that was the pretext for attending.)

I can't begin to tell you how much fun I had with Gus and Gig (the snitch ;) ) as well as Tony and Reese Bose and their posse consisting of Kerry and his much better and prettier half, Randy W., FastEddie and a bunch of others.

It was also fun working the airwaves and getting updates and the rumor mill churning with Mike Robuck.

And lastly but definitely not least, major props to Vince (and his lovely wife) for putting up with a gag phone call I put through to him yesterday evening while having dinner with the Bose Brigade. Vince is a great guy and a great sport.

I'll definitely post more about the Show and all.

In brief I'll say this:

Gus scored big time. He can fill in the details but his taste and great relationship with makers is and was rewarded with a bevy of incredible beauties.

Gig scored at least one major beauty as well from a maker who is a mutual friend that we respect greatly.

I ended up with three new knives.

A Queen/Ontario/RAT "Surveyor Stockman" that was given to me as a gift by my long time friend Jeff Randall.

A small fixed blade by Charles May. 3" D2 blade, canvas micarta scales, leather sheath.

The real prize (knifewise) for me was winning the opportunity to purchase a beautiful knife by Reese Bose. (This after having pulled Gus' name out of the hat at the Chamblin table and watching Joe (canineforge) pull the lucky rabbit out of the hat at both Chamblin and Richard Rogers' tables. (I'll let him tell the story when he gets back online. He and his wife were a real pleasure to meet and spend time with at the show.)

I was lucky enough to win the Rodgers Wharncliffe Whittler by Reese Bose. This one features black buffalo horn scales and blades of ATS-34. The knife is stunning and you can imagine my surprise when my name was called with only about three knives remaining unclaimed on the Bose table. What a kick!
(Pix of the knife are here on the forum from Kerry and also in the Custom Folder section of my knife pix. Link is below my sig.)

Randy W. was able to score big time with the purchase of an awesome knife by Tony that had been won by another individual, plus he may have scored one or two others. A sly fox that Randy.

Anyway, I'm gonna cut it short here as I'm a bit toasted but we'll fill in the gaps as we go forward from here.

Oh, and lest I forget, I want to give a big thanks to Tony and Reese Bose not only for the wonderful knives that they've given me the opportunity to own, but even moreso for their warmth, generosity and good humor in making me welcome to visit and spend time with them at the show, at meals and in their rooms doing show and tell and generally acting like a bunch of kids in the school yard. You couldn't ask for a better bunch to hang around.

Blues,It sure sounds like you all had a great time.I am truly sorry I did not plan and make it,and will not make that mistake for '08.
Your call was fun,and I was honored to speak with Tony, too.
Congratulations to all of you on your prizes from the Blade Show. We'll watch this thread for more......
-Vince

Congratulations. It seems that you came off with a good haul.
Love that Bose.

Man,

It was hard keeping my mouth shut this long. :D. Glad to hear you made it back Blues!

Blues picked up a fantastic whittler by Reese. I had no idea which knife he was drawn on at the time, but I did let out a woop for him. The drawings were a lot of fun as always. Joel kicked it off then Tony and Reese then Richard all back to back. Joe picked up a really nice toenail from Joel and a pearl single blade from Richard if I am not mistaken. I think a lot of us were keeping our fingers crossed for Richard's 5 blade sowbelly; it was a show stopper.

As Blues said, Tony and Reese are especially gracious considering all the hectic activity and crowds around them all weekend starting about the time they set foot in the hotel on Thursday. ;). I am not kidding when I say that anytime you were around Tony and Reese's knives the temp. was up 10 degrees in the immediate area :D. During the Bose drawing, the show staff was yelling for the crowd to clear the front aisle. Gig and I were laughing. Poor lady; that was not going to happen .

I'll say it again the highlight of the show for me was spending time with Blues, GigOne, Kit, Kerry, Randy, Reese, Tony, Sally & Richard, Bobby, Calvin, B*b, Danbo, Walter, Grace & Vince, Holger, Joel, Geno, Ron, Chuck B., John & Dawn, Bailey, Joe (our own), Rob, Ray, Ken, Ed, Don, Audra & Mike, P.J., Susan & Coop, Dellana & Van, Daryl, Jack, Chuck (BFC), Niel, Johnny, Joe, Al, Howard and many others. I honestly can say that I could walk away from Blade without a new knife and still have great satisfaction from the show because of friendships and the chances to start new ones each year. The knives are just gravy.

Shaldag, we missed you!

It was a great weekend because of the people. As I sit at home in recovery mode (and I only had a couple of beers on Friday and one at Thursday's dinner; "I swear officer." :D.) My hope is to meet and spend time with more of us "folks" who hang around here. Just do what I do and start saving for next year next week. ;).

(As I type this I see that the sneaky Kerry Hampton is online and stealthily checking out the info. LOL!)

In addition to the above, I also put in an order with my buddy Ray Kirk for one of his Scagel folders in stag (which my bud Gus piggy-backed on (smart man) and then asked Al Pendray (M.S.) if he would make a wootz bladed folder in stag for me as a companion to the wootz hunter I purchased from him a few years back.

Gives me something pleasant to wait for.

Blade was a hoot, huh guys! It seemed like the forum guys that I hooked up with I had known forever. Great friendships were made and kindled in the most excellent folksy way.

I gotta say though, I had pictured some of you guys much differently in my mind. I thought for sure that Bastid would have been about average height...a sneaky/genius looking bespectacled man with a wirey mustache and receding hair line, very soft-spoken. Blues, on the other hand should have looked like a kid with gray hair. I thought he would remind me of a kid you might share classes with in high school that was always crackin wise and makin everyone laugh with his stupidass comments. Boy....was I WAAYYYYyyyy off.

Anywho, I am decompressing as well and will have some interesting evidenciary data to share later with ya'll as we grow this thing.

Glad to see you are all making it back safe, was great to meet alot of ya'll and be able to put a face to a name.

Blues,

Vince said the cops was look'in for me, hope you didn't rat me out.

It was good to meet you there James:thumbup: The drawing was wild eh?

Kerry,

Gus said it best, that girl trying to move that crowd, well I think even Moses would have moved on. It was a hoot, will be able to spend all weekend next year, had commitments and I guess the Atlanta cops after me.

James,

Rat you out? Hell, son, I had you in manacles and leg irons! :p

It was great meeting you and swapping some stories along with show and tell.

My voice was as bad this morning as yours was on Friday! :D

Blues,

I was feeling a little shackled, next year we will have to explore the true depths of a 18 year old scotch and a fine 1990 Rocky Petel. Is Fasteddie still calling us the unholy alliance?

James

I guess I should let the folks on the forum in on the prank call to Vince.

While at dinner last night with Tony, Fast Eddie & Co., (based upon a rumor I had heard via the folksy telegraph), I called Vince and identified myself as an investigator with the Atlanta P.D.

Told Vince that we had been advised of a stolen Bo-zee knife (after apprehending and interrogating one CulpepperJ) and were alerted to its possible movement in interstate commerce to NY.

Naturally after a few moments of trying to determine how seriously to take this call, Vince promptly told the reporting officer to essentially pound sand in very Vince-like fashion.

Anyway, we all had a good laugh and then I put Tony on with Vince to speak about a topic of which Vince may have further information.

Hey, Kerry, me crack wise? C'mon! ;) :D

I believe I coined that term and I can't think of any reason for us to stop using it now! ;) :p

When I got the call,my wife was preparing for a huge event in the park next door to our home. The Relay for Life,a Cancer benefit
It was very hectic, she was good playing along, when handing me the phone,BUT,Momma didn't raise no dope hear. You'll need to do a bit better to shake ME up on the tele,Blues, but it was fun.I did not think it was you boys over there at Atlanta,Rather Cullpepp, aka Jimmy Stugots, and one of his buddies. You did disguise your voice good though, and I laughed as I put the phone down.My wife cannott believe the fact I know all of you from a Forum
As far as the alliance,I consider you all part of it,but you'll never know who the "Invisible Man" is,well,he is invisible.

Hey Vince, I didn't laugh at Elliot when he was pullin that gag. :)

Vince,

She's a beauty for sure! Congrats!!! We were all beaming when we heard the good news.

Congrats Vince and to everyone else. Sounds like the great knives were just one part of the fun.

I imagine there is going to be retaliation by Vince at some point. :)
