What up boys - I just got back from NC and had a blast. I went with my wife's entire side of the family so 13 people total in the house. The house was 7 bedrooms so it handled all the people just fine and was plenty big enough for us not to get in the way.

We had plenty of time to get out and enjoy the outdoors. We were in OBX and there was plenty of beach, marsh and water so most of the trails were small boardwalk type trails built through the woods. There were a couple of single track trails but I had my kid in the backpack and there were a lot of low hanging branches so we didn't stay on them for too long for fear of hitting little man's head everywhere we went.

Here some pics.

Great pics! How was the fishing?

Fishing was good - I caught some Spot and that was it but I didn't get to fish all that much while I was there. There were plenty of blues, flounder, and spot coming off the beach though.

what area of the OBX did you stay?Where did you get beach access with the vehicle? I know Corolla has a entrance to the North part of the beach, and Oregon inlet area as well. I thought Hatteras closed up the entrances to the beach until they figured out how to make the ecologists happy.Great place the OBX.

We were in Corolla and used that north end entrance. I've only ever stayed down south so I'm pretty surprised at the amount of people on the beach in Corolla so limiting it to the north end is probably the best bet. I'm not sure about the access down south as I haven't been there for quite some time. I had a blast driving on the beach and my son was laughing his butt off getting bounced all around.

I saw a guy in a sedan get stuck trying to make U-turn before the access point. It was pretty funny. I would have helped, but my boy was cranky and I had to get back.

The tow trucks there are sweet looking!

Great pics bro!

I had a blast when I went there a couple of years ago as well!

How did you do surf fishing?

I didn't get to do as much fishing as I would have liked to but it was a great time. I'm a fresh water fisherman so I'm a little out of my comfort zone in the surf, but it was a blast. It's hard for me to feel or see the strike. I was using circle hooks but was still losing some bait.

I got some spot but the guy about a hundred yards down the beach was pulling in some blues. He was using a lure while I was using a rig with blood worm and shrimp. His rigged rod was doing the same as mine.

Cool pics it looked like you had a great time. Any time you can get out in the woods and be near the ocean is so cool LOL

Great Pics!

Glad you had a good time. I've never been to OBX but Kathy loves it there. She used to go about every year before we were married. I probably need to make it happen again soon if I want to stay married. I guess a girl's gotta have her "beach fix". ;)

Yeah, that this time of year, the surf fishing doesn't yield many big fish. There are hundreds of lil guys that were probably picking your bait clean. Some get lucky and find a Cobia, but for the most part it's the baby blues that are hunting in the surf.

Did the lure the guy was using look like this?

Exact lure - maybe next time I'll get some more time on the beach to fish.

:cool::)

When I was there the 1st thing I did was walk the fishing peers to see what the old timers were catching and using. Next stop was the tackle shop to get what I was lacking. That lure is called a Gotcha, and the lil blues loved them:thumbup:

Sounds like you had fun. Cool pics as well.

Maybe you didn't do as much fishing as you would have liked, but as long as it was a good time, I am sure you managed ;)

Great pics... Thanks for sharing

I go to the Outer Banks every year with my family, along with another family and rent out one of the large beach houses in what seems to be the same fashion you did. It is always a great time. We go to the island Ocracoke. Its a quaint little island, with no buildings over 2 stories or or large shopping centers..just what I like.

We did a lot of fishing there but we caught mainly black drum and sea trout. Other fish included a pufferfish, bluefish (which were also quite prevalent), and a flounder.

Once again thanks for sharing...this year I couldn't go :(
