Back harness for 9?

Keep it simple. For middle of the back carry; strap it to a Camelbak. Done!

The beauty of a Camelbak (or its like) system is that they make excellent packs even when you aren't carrying water. I'd go with one that is medium sized with a removable water bladder system. If you choose not to carry water then you can cut a hole in the bottom or midway down of the "water bladder pouch. If you have padding on the back I don't recommend cutting that portion, just cut at the very bottom (of course, to make it resealable sew in some hook and loop)" Then you can use the "hanger"(usually a loop of nylon or cordage inside the pouch at the top) inside to hang the sheath to. With the sheath and blade inside the pouch,it will keep it from flopping around too much. Plus the knife it partially hidden.

This system is quite awesome, and very modular. Get creative and let us know what you figure out.

I'll throw in with the baldric boys. Mine is a homemade paracord thing but it does just what you seem to want. Hangs down the middle of the back unless I swing it over to my side.

Works great, cost maybe a nickel in cordage and took maybe 5 minutes to rig.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll do a little experimenting over the next couple weeks. I'll let you know what I decide to go with.

Doc - Nakina area - O'Sullivan Lake - been going up to that general area since 79 with wife's family. Used to primitive camp and explore for a week but we're all too old for that now. FIL is 88 and recently had a stroke and is pretty frail but his will is strong and he is determined to give it a go one last time.
