Back pain, Arthritis, Sugar, and Alcohol

Hey Andy,

A couple of things...

Withdrawal from sugar and/or alcohol takes about thirty days (I have done both :-), the first week being the worst once you have completely stopped either. Sugar is in just about everything so stay away from processed foods, if you can. I switched to a modified Mediterranean diet/anti-inflammation diet (https://www.mayoclinic.org/-/media/...3/25/mcdc11_mediterranean_diet_guide-6col.jpg) about a year ago, modified in that I eliminated dairy, all simple carbohydrates and sugars, legumes, breads, pasta, and rice). Prior to this change, I had a lot of postural/neuromuscular related pain in the hip, shoulder, back and neck; I was also sleeping poorly. Within 30 days of making dietary changes, I began sleeping through the night and my muscular pain almost disappeared; I am totally convinced that low grade inflammation was the main issue in my situation and frankly for most. I am 60 now and have been off sugar for 1.5 years now...

Earlier in this thread "marrow washing" was mentioned... I also practice Chinese (Tai Chi, Chi Gung, Nei Gung ) and Indonesian (Kuntao Silat) martial arts including various health-focused systems that are definitely helping me slow/reverse the age related stuff. I have for many years now. I would point you to my teacher, Richard Clear, who has helped many of us in these methods. He has been my instructor on the martial and health aspects for 20 years+ now. He is the best :-)

Here's a good place to start for Chi activation training -

And, here is his daily Chi Gung/Nei Gung - http://www.clearstaichi.com/clears-qigong - this is the most valuable health related training I have seen, period.

Good luck with everything, it's worth it :-)

Finally, I absolutely LOVE your knives!!!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that Clear was diagnosed with some type of arthritis at age 16 or 17; as far as I can tell, he is symptom free. He is 50-55 now :-)

Andy, Glad you're getting better! A Basket Ball court sounds great. A little work day fun can be very good for ones health and moral.

Great post. Thanks. I guess I haven't really even started withdrawal then. But I have kept it to 3 beers a day and no extra sugars. So far.

I have been on a "ketogenic" diet for the last couple years (low carb, high fat). I was amazed when I lost the the initial 10 lbs in 10 days, it was all water weight that caused a bloating in my stomach. Since being on this diet, a lot of muscle pain and joint pain went away as well. I truly thought I was staring down the barrel of arthritis in my hands, and it has pretty much disappeared. Whenever I cheat and eat simple carbohydrates, I start retaining water and have issues with sleeping right away. Amazing how much our diets affect things.
