How do you guys feel about carrying your traditional in your back pocket? For me this would be next to a wallet. I am considering this for either a full size trapper or a soddie jr.I usually carry a 309 companion front right under a bandana but am thinking of adding a second knife in the back pocket. So what I realy would like to know is what are your experiences as far as security and comfort. Any opinions would be great thank you.

I really don't like carrying anything in my back pocket, don't find it either secure or comfortable.

Never really understood how people do it. Any knife that isn't in my front pocket is gonna need some kind of clip (burn the witch!) or be in a sheath. But I'm interested to hear from people who do it.

I tried it once but found it uncomfortable when driving. I carry my wallet in my front pocket and drop my edc next to it (vertically) or sometimes below it (horizontally).
If you're used to carrying your wallet in your back pocket, stowing a soddie or trapper next to it shouldn't make too much of a difference in comfort.

The only knife I can really carry comfortably in a back pocket is my Mercator. But I fear that it may slip out.
Front pockets or sheath for me.

Larger slipjoints go in the backpocket next to the wallet. The soddie jr is too small for backpocketing, it is too hard to retrieve and wants to go horizontal. I have never owned a full size trapper for some odd reason but I think that would work fine.

A large Case stockman is perfect for backpocket next to wallet carry.

Thanks for the input and I have found that both the trapper and soddie sit very nicely there and are easy to reach, my main consern is whether it will stay put reliably and I am still working out how to justify carrying two blades (especially with a leatherman on my keys) and or how to rotate them as I like them all so darn much.

I have a back pocket sheath that has a divider to keep my Ben Hogan upright, and holds business cards in the other section. Very useful, very comfortable.

I've tried back pocket carry with a traditional. Didn't care for it. But some folks do. You should try it and see if it works for you.

I've tried to carry next to my wallet. The issue I had was ending up needing my wallet more than my knife. Every time I took my wallet out the knife would want to fall down and go horizontal in my pocket. You can see how this would be a pain having to readjust everything each time you take your wallet out.

I prefer carrying my knives in my back pockets, but only horizontally. They mostly end up in my left back pocket, but once in a while, I'll stick it underneath my wallet in my right back pocket. Never had a problem although I find that with some of my bigger knives (i.e. GEC 54), it can be uncomfortable sitting down for long periods of time. I think as long as you place a handkerchief or bandana in the same pocket, you'll find that your knife will stay put.

More than the comfort factor is the fact that I am a big dude.

I have actually tweeked the frame of a traditional by sitting on it, or kneeling on it. Normally when it is a soft seat. Like a couch. It was not much, but definitely moved the blade just a tic out of center.

I can get away with a clipped knife for some reason, but I remove them when driving, or sitting in some seats. I don't find it to be a secure method when sitting. If just walking around it is ok.

I also don't put a wallet in my back pocket, so it does not keep the thing upright or anything.

I am paranoid of being pick pocketed, I lost a wallet that way and have have everything in my front pocket since. My back pockets are for receipts and lint.

Its how I always carry my Queen Sodbuster

back pocket next to a slim wallet - hardly notice it

I use a little slip sheath to keep it in place and pretty much only wear Craghoppers so the pocket zip keeps things secure

not sure I'd do it in Jeans though...

When bushwalking, I sometimes carry my folder in backpocket. It has to be a length that won't jam sideways. I don't carry a wallet at these times. With some packs, it is easier & more comfortable than front pocket.

I've tried it, when there were holes in my front pockets, and I had to put my wallet and knife in the backpocket. but like many here, it never felt quite right. I thought I might end up killing my knife by sitting on it, or snapping my credit cards. the best is to have jeans with a watch pocket big enough to accomodate a decent sized slipjoint, so I use that option wherever possible.

I carry a big knife in my back pocket frequently (daily?). Anything from an Opinel No. 10, to a Buck 110, a Queen MM, S&M #1L, big old Schrade rope knife... you get the idea. Anything 4" and above is a candidate. That pocket is also stuffed with a bandana, to help keep the knife in place.

Yeah what he said! My GEC #23, Case Trapper, AGR Wharnecliffe sowbelly, and the bigger, not able to be mentioned, OHO blades... 2 are all back pocket carry. Easy access! And you don't have to try to get past all the other stuff in the pockets and past the belt.

I have been carrying a copperlock in my back pocket, both right with a money clip card holder, and left alone. Falls to bottom horizontal most of the time, which is okay and seems to lessen the likelihood of bending it. I did it originally because the copperlock is rather long although thin for the front pocket and to keep it away from change and keys.

I do sometimes kind of have to dig for it, which may leave the impression that I am picking my butt. But it has been fine.

I can't do it just isn't comfortable for me. I only keep my wallet in there while I'm walking around any other time it is in the center console of my car or on the kitchen counter lol. I have pretty much kept my traditional collection to 3.5"s and under because that is the biggest size I can comfortably carry in my watch pocket of my jeans. Keeps them from getting all banged up being in my front pockets with my phone and keys.
