Back-Pocket EDC Carry - Any Adverse Effects Known From Longterm Weight On A Folder?

This may be a weird question so bare with me, but I recently took a liking to carrying my EDC's either IWB, or in my *back left-pocket. - Mostly bc both those locations (for me personally) allow for faster deployment, and for my knife-carrying to fly under the radar in certain situations..

Anyways, I was wondering if sitting on your folders for prolonged periods of time (for hours), or using a same folder for lets say, 2 months (all in the back-pocket) would alter any internal working-parts (e.g., the axis-lock, liner deformation, bending of small parts, etc. etc.) or harm the knife in any way..

I know others choose more conventional methods of carrying EDC's, but the back-pocket works for me, I just don't weight to f*** up my blades.. Thanks!

Also, bc I know someone will ask, I weigh 180, and have only tried carrying a 530 IBP for about a week.. No issues that I can see yet, but long term? Hmm Hopefully someone can weigh in with experience..

i used to carry a ss chive in the back pocket with my wallet. after a while it wore a hole in the jeans. needless to say i am glad it was just a pair of jean and not a suit.

I always carry in my back right pocket and keep it as far to right as I can, I have never sat on mine with it in that spot and it keeps it off the cars while Im working on them :) I find it much more comfortable in the back pocket with my wallet as I don't really notice the weight difference specially with lighter knives

I carried my Delica in my back pocket for over a year and a half, no signs of wear or internal issues.

Wear to the knife? I would be more concerned with damage to whatever you are sitting on. I have ripped car seats with the clip and I will not sit on my knife. It is just hard to remember every single time you climb into a car.

I carry my larger knives in the right rear pocket. I have never seen an issues arise from me sitting on them and if the knife is thin enough, I can't feel it.

I have snagged my 0560 clip on seat leather one time (pre-existing hole on a total loss vehicle) and I wouldn't ever suggest sitting on a leather seat with a clipped knife in a rear pocket.

Not a worry to me, I don't have any clips on my user 530's (so the profile is very slim), and like blade-fiend said below, my back-pocket knife sits all the way tucked near the left side of the pocket so its not fully being sat on.. I'm more worried about pro-longed weight on the knife over a span of a few months/year.. CrialjLA gave some reassurance, so it probably wont make any diff overall

Knives are made to be used and put to the test pretty much.
Heavy work, light work, etc.
Wear and tear, weight.
Some knives are even weight tested with 100's of lbs before they hit the market.

I used to carry in my back pocket and never had any issues other than scratching my clip badly.
A guy I know carries in his back pocket all the time and has also had zero issues.

I don't think the weight will hurt your knife at all. Now if you were taking 180lbs and just bashing the knife repeatedly with it, that'd be different.

My weight is also about 180 lbs, and after carrying my 940 in my back pocket for over a year... It's not affected in the slightest. That could be because I don't have a wide rear, and so I'm not always sitting directly on top of the knife, rather it's slightly off to the side.

I guess it depends how much weight and how much your backside is bending the knife when you sit on it.
This thread seems relevant. The poster mentions that the damaged blade probably happened because of the stresses from back pocket carry.

If you carry a back pocket knife the Tony Bose way (riding next to your wallet), it shouldn't put pressure on the knife. But I don't see why anyone would carry a knife in their back pocket solo. Isn't that uncomfortable to sit down on?

I've been carrying one or another of my Spyderco Militaries in my right back pocket for six or seven years now. Other than surface wear on the handles, I haven't seen any damage to the knives. Granted, I don't sit in one position for hours at a time, but I do spend a lot of time working on concrete floors with my legs folded.

More concerned about the inner parts of YOU, and not the knife. The knife is easily replaced. Who cares? If you're a skinny butt, I would think your hip-bone would hurt pretty quickly...you might develop a bruise.
I got one on my shoulder once from a slipped entrenching tool in Basic in the Army. Was on a forced 20-mile march, full field-pack, and I wasn't allowed to stop and refasten the shovel, which kept bouncing me on the shoulder with every step I took. Had a helluva bruise before I got back to the barracks that night. Thirty years of a painful bruise later, it became a malignant xanthosarcoma, a solid cancerous tumor about 3/4" in diameter by 1.5" long...which I had to have removed (twice) surgically before it was gone. So, a thirty year sore bruised shoulder, malignant cancer, because of a shovel that slipped on my pack on a forced march. Never was that fond of the Army. The VA, of couse, said it couldn't have happened; kicked me out of the front door...effectively. Perhaps I should have tightened my shovel better in the first place.
So, NO, I would not reco sitting on your knife for extended periods of time, over a period of yrs. If you notice any soreness or bruising, I'd change my ways in a hurry.

I'd say any blade should handle yer cheeks just fine. Unless it's a flimsy whimsy gas station tin-foil turd, and since you're here I'm assuming it's not.

But like Sonnydaze says, take care of yourself. I sat on too fat a wallett (not even cash!) for too long and my damn spine is shaped like a Q now.

I carry a folder in the right rear pocket because I frequently have a pocket pistol in my front right pocket. I drive a smaller Honda and the only issue right rear pocket carry has created for me is the pocket clip on some knives. Occasionally the clip snags on the way in or out of the seat, and some clips have been damaged as a result. It never has adversely affected any other part of the knife though.

I carry my Leatherman Charge Ti in one or the other of my back pockets solo. Nah, it's not uncomfortable at all. Even something as large and heavy as a multi tool does not bother me in a back pocket.

That being said, I do not carry knives in my back pocket. In my front pocket they are within sight. Back pocket they are not. And pick pockets can be really good at snagging things from your back pocket due to that. It's why I do not carry a wallet in my back pocket either. Use a money clip/ID holder in my left front pocket.

I've been carrying my Calypso jr se or my Cally 3 se in my lr pocket for 2-3 years. I'm used to 1 of them being in my pocket all the time so

I hardly notice the knife at all. I haven't noticed any change or damage to the knives at all except wear on the Calypso jr clip.

Not at all, carrying a small/thin EDC there isn't an issue - can barely feel it.. I don't use clips that much anymore, and I can deploy my knife faster from the rear-pocket (knife falls too deep in front pocket w/out clip).. Pickpockets aren't a problem either ;)

From what I've seen already, there most likely wont be an issue with wear.. She's a user anyway! Thanks for the replies

I stopped carrying folders in my back pocket after i lost one. I do still carry fixed blades in my back pocket though. When i wear an untucked button down it perfectly hides my esee 4 with the sheath clipped to my back pocket. That also solves your worries about wear.
