I am a notorious rotater of my everyday knife. My dear wife has heard multiple times this is going to be the one I carry everyday. I picked up a manix when they first started coming out. I have been a lifelong spyderco user a delica was my first knife. When I first got my manix I wasnt sold. I had a military model I had been carrying for a long period of time. It was ATS-34 if that gives you an idea of how long I was carrying it. I started using it more and more and it eventually replaced the millie. Then my brother was going to Iraq(I had just gotten home) and he needed a good knife and he is not a knife person so I had him take it with him. He got home and wouldnt give it back. I moved to an area that was restrictive on blade length so I bought a yojimbo. Then a black ATR ( which is awesome). This october I decided I wanted another manix everywhere I knew at the time was sold out so I ordered from spyderco I also got a chinook 2 and a captain. I carried the manix daily for about a month then the chinook for a few days then back to the manix. Didnt really like the captain traded it. got a waved endura 4 carried it a couple of weeks back to the manix. Got a D2 710 carried it 3 weeks back to the manix. Got a vex carried it 2 days back to the manix. Most recently I got a mini rukus carried it a week back to the manix. I really want a carbon fiber bg-42 military but im sure maybe a month and I'll be back to the manix. I see threads all the time about what to get for non-knife people or deploying soldiers. There is nothing simpler that a lock back and no simpler one handed opening method than a hole. My brother for example owns 2 folding knives his manix and his SAK. He couldnt be happer. Bottom line this is a hell of a knife and Im not sure ill ever totally replace it. doesnt mean I wont try but I have not been succesful so far. Maybe if they made a manix in D2?

Sure you will try to replace it...I bet within 6 months. It's a habit you know.

I've never found the perfect edged tool and so I keep looking. I have found some great ones and the Manix (Mini Manix for me) is definitely a great one!

What did you think of the Captain?

:)

The liner lock was too hard to manipulate and the handle was too small I actually liked the blade shape of the captain

I do the same thing. Look at my knives for like an hour and try to pick which one. I usually end up going with my chinook III. Its it the weekend and I don't know what I'll be doing I'll want something with a solid grip, and lock. And comfortable to carry. The blade shape is limited for utlity tasks but I think thats what the manix is for.

I have yet to handle one but I keep hearing good things about it.

I feel the same about my mini manix. I think I know deep inside it's THE KNIFE, but I don't want to admit it so I can still be on the hunt for THE KNIFE. Its no fun in looking if I found THE KNIFE. I'm going to buy a Strider or ZT next, but I'll probably be right back to the mini in a month or so. O well its fun I guess? I'm just glad I have found IT. (shhhh don't tell no one K)

See knife nut I want a chinook 3 really back the reason i preferred the manix was the flat groud blade I actually like the shape of the chinook 2 better than the manix. Im also going to try a mini manix.

Fletcher you seem like someone who can afford to do so, so I'd be interested to see your opinion of the G10 Cara Cara compared to your Manix if you have not already tried one. The Manix is one of my favorite folding knives, but after getting the Cara Cara I ended up preferring it to the Manix. If you've tried one I'd like to know what you think.

A D2 Manix---puh shaw!

Thats what I like the most about the Manix is the s30v it seems to me to be the perfect steel. Granted the only d2 knife I've had is the BM osborne (great little knife) but s30v just takes and keeps such a great edge.

I know what your saying about the switch off though...for me its between my little pimped SAK Trekker and the Manix. The Manix loses everyday that I either go into the city or go to work. But when I am hiking or around the house, man that is the best.

Vivi I love the byrds excellent knives for the money and I do not have a g-10 cara cara the only one I have was a surprise in the spyderco box when I ordered a few knives from them. It is an aluminum model with a black finished blade im not sure which one it is I would carry it more but it is combination edge and I prefer either fully serrated or plain edge. I would not hesitate to try one and may go look for one monday.

The reason I said d2 chef is because when s30v gets dull its kind of tough to get back sharp. I dont let it get that way after the first time. I just think d2 would be a cool option.

I feel the same way and also suffer from the same affliction. the Manix is one that I will probably never get rid of.

See knife nut I want a chinook 3 really back the reason i preferred the manix was the flat groud blade I actually like the shape of the chinook 2 better than the manix. Im also going to try a mini manix.

You should definaly get the chinook II. I love spyderco's g-10 and their lock back is just solid. Its the only knife I reach for one I want something solid without any doubt. Get the chinook II, then carry both. I plan to do that. Manix, and chinook should be all you need.

I scream for a waved Endura with Chinook-shaped handles, but in Volcano-grip FRN. Nobody heard me yet :D
