Last year we took a 3 day trip to the Saco River from New Hampshire to Maine with the goal of exploring 33 miles of some of the most beautiful country in the North East. However we only did about 19 miles that trip do to very low water conditions and having way too much fun.
This year they have very high water levels and we aimed to finish what we started last year. So 4 of us from last year as well as 4 others headed down the Saco River in New Hampshire on Sunday morning to reach Hiram, Maine by Tuesday afternoon.
Traveling by canoe is my favorite way of experiencing the Wilderness. Although we didn't see allot of wildlife we saw a bunch. More importantly we had a great time, I think it may have even been better than last years trip. The following pics and text will hopefully show you why.
We all started the trip in high spirits and kept that spirit throughout our journey.
Dom, Kevin, and Tom
Leanna and Nicki
Big John
Simon smiling thinking I'll help him paddle from the front. Little did he know I meant to spend every minute with one of my two fishing rods I brought in my hand.

Even though we wanted to keep a good pace, we had to make a pit stop at Pleasant Pond
Soon it was time to call it a day, and find a camp site. Last year Poison Ivy was the scourge that left us with very few places to camp. This spot Simon and I found didn't have much and appeared to be a good to go.
It was lacking down wood, so off we went to get some.
With plenty of wood we got the fire going, opened a gallon of my special lemonade and got to cooking.
Once I went into the tree line to set up my hammock, I quickly found out that we would have a new scourge this trip.
On the sand bar they were bothersome, but in the woods they were unbearable! Clouds of mosquito's would surround you in a matter of seconds. They laughed at my deet and permethrin soaked clothes and hammock.

We toughed it out with a big Smokey fire, great food, and lots good beverages!
Not in our right minds we had some fun...
So far I have acquired incriminating photos of the following WSS mods. Brian Jones, and Joezilla. I now get to finally add Kevin to the list!
Day 1 ended in a fog, but all slept well and Day 2 would be just as much fun and filled with awesome river finds!
After a great breakfast it was off.
Note the inner tube found pretty early that morning. It would come in handy later that day.
We headed down alot of little channels trying to discover little ponds to fish.
Many obstacles made it slow going
Some were not passable due to flora
and some due to fauna
Back on the main river, Kev spotted a back pack in a tree. Here's what was inside.
Let's see, 3 winter hats, a tarp, cordage, deodorant, anti-psychotic meds, 3 packs of Marlboro reds, about 13 condoms, knife, flashlight, a mason jar filled with weed, and a wallet with all his ID's. Very interesting float gear eh???
Further down the river, we spotted something in the form of a person caught up in a tree close to shore. Kevin immediately gave assistance.
Simon and I took the inner tube and kindly towed her to safety.
She was very appreciative!!!
Soon she was off and decided to swim back.
