Back to the Tinker

I didn't even think about it affecting the function. I will have to give it a try.
My question to you is this: If you build it, then what are you going to call it?

I vote for calling it a Health Inspector because it has all the food stuff (bottlecap lifter, can opener, corkscrew) plus a magnifying glass.

Anyway, here's a sh🤬 photo of an unmodified knife layer backspring next to a modified one:

The picture is hopefully at least clear enough to see where the material was removed and how it's in a spot where it shouldn't really weaken the spring at all. And don't worry about making it perfect either because it'll be hidden after you assemble everything. ;) All that matters is removing enough material to get the cap lifter to drop down low enough to be at the same level as the can opener.

The Compact was the first one that really got me to carry a SAK along with a folder. Moved from there to a Huntsman, and now to a Deluxe Tinker. The pliers/scissors are such a useful combo, tossed on a set of plus scales and it is good to go.DA1AC41C-92E7-4523-8649-001C783E0AF3.jpeg

For years now, Almost never without a tinker in my "off-hand" pocket (in addition to whatever my daily carry is in my dominant pocket). I really like the idea of the Alox, but truthfully, I end up using the tweezers just about as often as anything else ... splinters, etc. ... so I'd hate to give up that capability

Toss a Rambler on your keys and you have toothpick and tweezers covered so you can alox it up.

Except…. That my wife already gives me grief on a regular basis for the amount of weight I currently have hanging from said key ring…🤔🤔

I began carrying a Huntsman in the early 1980's for ARNG use, came up with a camo Buck nylon sheath and carried it on my web belt (as we were switching from fatigues to BDU's it was usually hidden under my shirt). The one pictured here is my second, bought at the Fort Bragg PX upon return from a NATO exercise in 1986, I gave my first one to an Italian Army Warrant. The Tinker was on display in the Fort Lewis PX in 1991, saw the camo finish and bought it, carried it until I switched back to a Medium Stockman in 1998. The Tinker met all my needs and was flatter - a nicer size, I never cared for the real thick SAK's. OH

Everyday on-duty and off I have a Tinker and a more substantial folder like a PM2. Tinker gets used so much more. Tinker gets loaned to others needing a knife. And I keep a few at the house to give away to deserving individuals who are amazed at the usefulness of a real Swiss Army knife.
