Back to Victorinox only..

It all boils down to what you need. If a SAK fills that role there's really no need to look any further. I think a lot of us get caught up in the "newer is better" cycle and find we have a different knife for any occassion, when we had the right one all along.

By the way, I carry my SAK Recruit every day now. Thanks for the reminder!

i really agree with you... very nicely put... SAKs fills the role nicely in my EDC...

For me it's almost the same. Over the years I've had Buck's, Spyderco's, Kershaw's and other knives. I still have a number of them and still think that both modern and tradition knives are great, but nowadays it seems I only take them with me when I go out for a multiday camping trip.

I've always carried SAKs and most of the time they're the only knives I carry and need. The last few week I've carried a Cadet only.

Up until 1996 all I ever carried was a Vic SAK model on me. From 1996 to present it's been one folder after another - but my Vic SAK still rides with me next to my wallet every day without fail.

There are many days when the only knife I pull out to use is my SAK. I know without a doubt that I could get by easily without a large folding knife.

I lost an ALOX soldier last weekend (7/2) and have been missing it every day. Of all my EDC knives I used it the most. Often paired it up with a Blur for work, or small FB for getting back to nature. But no matter what, I carried it with me every day. I just scored a NIB 2008 model in trade! I can't wait to get it.

Lately this Vic Hunter has been riding on my belt in a Buck 110 sheath...

been carrying a farmer for months now, used it for everything, cutting, carving, opening beers, cans, making holes in wood or plastic (made more vent holes in the bottom of my laptop, which i opened with a rambler screwdriver by the way), scraping the teflon out of a recon 1 blade, used it to open my zippo flint tube, well, it has done plenty more... and that farmer has been dropped on concrete (clumsy hands), carried with keys, and still is as strong as day one.
still i have a preference towards the old alox soldier, but the farmer is great too.
now im waiting for those peanuts...see what happens...

Its tough putting together an accurate timeline like this. Introduction dates can usually be found, but discontinued dates are a real bugger. Oftentimes a manufacturer will do a big production run on a certain model, then continue to sell that model for a couple of years until their inventory is gone.

They don't announce the discontinuation usually, that model simply doesn't appear in the next year's catalog.

so far i push myself to only use saks to cut things that need to be cut... and so far i dont feel missing my other folders hehehe

hi, a couple of months ago, i started carrying my 08 alox soldier as my "one and only" and found that this works great for my limited needs. i now carry it religiously in the watch pocket of my jeans. now i have been missing my case 3318 yellow stockman. much to my surprise, it carrys pretty nice in the watch pocket with the soldier. am now experimenting with carrying the stockman in my shirt pocket for a little easier access. and so, my friend, you will do just fine with whatever sak you choose to carry.
