I finally got out into the shop after 3 looooong weeks on vacation with the family. I did some drawing out and profiling on Saturday and felt a bit "off" that night. The next morning I woke up with the bed spinning and I could barely stand. It went away for a bit, then hit me again. I had trouble speaking and my pulse thumped through my body. My heartrate wasn't irregular or fast... I was just very "aware" of it. The wife called a Telehealth service to ask a few questions and the next thing I new I could hear an ambulance screaming through the town..... BAWLZ. I spent the day at the hospital were they gave me a bunch of tests including CG's, a CT Scan and bloodwork. I still get bouts of vertigo and am not supposed to be working any machinery. Tomorrow, I go see a neuro specialist. I hope it is just an inner ear infection.

I can't just sit here, so I ran the blanks I made on Saturday through some normalizing cycles. Maybe I do a little hand sanding on some almost finished blades tonight and tomorrow. This kinda sucks.

Rick

Here are the normalized blades from Saturday's batch...

Hope you're ok rick!

As tempting as it is to go work in the shop when you're just a little off healthwise (especially vertigo!), it becomes that much easier to slip up and really get hurt

Take care man

Take it easy, Rick. We don't want to hear you're the first knifemaker ever to cut himself ...

Whoever thought a vacation could be so stressful !!

Well I hope your ok! I guess its time to put a deadmans switch on your grinder, if your getting vertigo. Good looking blades, as usual, you got there!

Everything from the hospital came back okay... I'm just waiting to have the neuro specialist look at me.

I sure hope it's nothing serious and you feel well soon. I noticed your name on the list for G3; I sure hope to meet/talk.

Periodically, (i.e. 2 - 5 yrs) I will suffer from a bout of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. The first time I experienced it was on a flight to Florida for vacation and ended up with an ambulance ride to the hospital but they found nothing wrong and I finished the vacation, nervously. Like the worst drunk, or after spinning around for five minutes. The world will not stop spinning and inevitably vomiting occurs and occurs and occurs. My remedy has been to lay on my back with damp cloths over my eyes until it went away. The last time I found out about the Semont maneuver so that maybe I can end it quicker if/when it happens again. This has happened three times since 1997.

So, stop normalizing blades and normalize yourself. You got a lot of work to do. To bad you didn't try forging blades while dizzy. I wonder what they would have looked like. ;-)

Yikes, Rick. That sounds like no fun. Beautiful forgings, though. Hope you're feeling better fast!

I’m sorry to hear that, Rick.

You might consider asking the doctor to run a Lyme disease test – in fact, I would demand it.

I say this because your symptoms are frequently experienced by those of us with Lyme disease.

Be aware of the fact that it is common for a Lyme test to be a false negative, so if you test negative and there is no other explanation for your symptoms, I’d get another test.

I hope you are feeling better and I hope that the cause of your symptoms is something easily treated.

Rick I hope you are OK and feel better soon. I never go to the doctor but I went to the doctor around this time last year for extreme dizziness and vertigo, it turned out to be horrible allergies! Hopefully it is just that, it goes away until they start cutting hay here.

Good looking knives!

good luck - here's another hope it's benign and you're back to "normal" soon!

Wow scary. I hope you get better soon. Hopefully you just had too much excitement on vacation. I know that is the way I feel when I get back from Vegas. ;)

Does this mean more Rick quotes for the forums?
