Back up blade to your Becker

So, do any of you guys carry a back-up to your Becker, or is maybe you Becker a backup to say an axe?

I guess I am just kind of asking your blade load-out when your in the woods... Not car camping where you bring every car you own, but actually having to hump the gear you brought.

I always have a folding knife on me, so I guess that could be part of the backup. When I carry my BK2 it's normally the only fixed blade, but I sometimes suplement it with a Mora or my scandi patch knife. It seems like the BK2 can be a very good stand alone system without the need for a "carver" and a "beater" knife set. My BK2 is kind of a Nessmuk trio wrapped into one in my mind.

So, to rehash, do you carry a back-up for your Becker?

I haven't been able to go in the woods yet with my BK2 cause of school. :( But when I do I plan on taking my BK14 along. I think they make a pretty good tag team.

The easy answer is the Becker BK11. It usually gets paired with my BK7, and the duo often with a tomahawk, machete or axe based on the time of year, the activity and the spot where I am going. Sometimes I'll substitute for the Buck Paklite Skinner or the Mora 840 based on which is sharp and ready to go, easiest to rig to my kit etc.

I live by the rule that 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

I carry a 14 with me everywhere and when camping carry a 2 and a Mora with me as well.

I have by BK2 as a backup for my BK9 everytime :D. BUt on a serious note I usually will have a mora and folder with me along with my main knife. might switch the folder out for a leatherman since the mora takes care of any really fine tasks.

My kfu edc. Its gone everywhere since I got it. And if I'm carrying a Becker its most likely my bk10. I do have a para 2 enroute along with a 0350 so who knows maybe ill carry a folder.

I usually carry a Swamp Rat Rodent Solution on my belt and my light saber sharp BK11 in my pocket.

Its been the BK2 alone for me the times I've taken it out, but from here on in a slipjoint or squirt ps4 will be tagging along. There are some tasks that the BK2 is a bit beefy for, but none that I've run into where it wasn't beefy enough.

I don't own any Beckers that require a backup but I typically have more than one knife on me. When I hunt, for instance, I'll have:
* a larger Becker - BK2 or more typically a BK9 for all the heavy lifting tasks (some times swapped out for a 'hawk)
* BK11 - in case lightning strikes and I actually kill a deer; smaller > bigger for field dressing
* Vic Huntsman - because it's always in my pocket.

Lash the sheath of an Eskabar or Necker to your BK2 sheath with some paracord... that's what I do with my ESEE 5 and Izula.

I always carry a small knife these days, so my BK2 has been more a front-up to my belt knife when heading into CT to reclaim yards and sidewalks from the recent tree-bombing.

The most recent belt knife in rotation is this 3" 'Mountain Knife' which is the understudy to a 4"x3/16" bruiser currently in progress.
(see my new blog in my .sig!)

The 10 and 14 ride on the same sheath. The Remora is in the survival tin and I've usually got either a BM Mini-Grip or Kershaw Cyclone in the pocket or clipped to the pack.

I have a BK13 (Remora) riding alongside any fixed blade I have that's over 5" long.

Hey Khan, what kind of hawk is that??

We will not tolerate this behavior young man. Please show yourself to the corner...

My BK2 and BK11 are my two main woods blades. I also carry a Ka-Bar 1211 that is lashed to the MOLLE webbing of my pack.

I always pack a folder of some sort, a multi tool, either the esee 4 or 11 or 14 for small stuff and now a machax for the rest.

These days I'm lucky to get to the woods a couple times a year but When I take my BK9 with me I tend to also take one of my 4-5" blades too, which are mostly customs/semi customs like my French trade knife with a 5" that is only 1/16" thick so its great for food prep, and it makes a pretty mean feather stick, my 4" Varmint Hunter from Martin Tactical Knives or now my new SYKCO Dumpster Mutt. They're the top two knives in this pic. I also carry a folder wherever I go, so its a secondary back up. Used to be a Gerber FAST Draw. now its a SOG Flash II.
