Back-Up EDC

Here's my problem with a response such as "get whatever it is that you personally are leaning towards": it provides absolutely no insight at all to the person asking the question. In this case, he is asking specifically for opinions on smaller Kershaw knives, one of which he wants to get as a backup EDC. He even cites 3 examples. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he wants to know if there is a specific knife that stands out from the group, or if there is something he should avoid. Even if there is one among all the choices that he is currently leaning towards, he doesn't want to make an uninformed decision based solely on aesthetics that he'll regret later. Thus, the post.

I don't mean to come down on you, and I hope that you don't take this personally, but I've read too many answers to questions around here that aren't answers at all. Another pet peeve of mine is the "best knife is the one I have on me" reply. That is probably the most useless response of all. It's a lazy, canned response sprinkled with a hint of elitism, and it does nothing to encourage or to teach a budding knife enthusiast. I'll stop ranting now...

It might not be an answer to you, but it is an answer none the less. It helps remind you that it is your decision. It reaffirms what you were thinking, and in the end it is but your decision. You see lazy, I see wise words.

Lets remember this is a place to come and get along, not to bicker. Lets keep this thread on course please.

I agree with Stick, The Cryo keeps coming back to me as a great little knife. I think it would take a beating and ask for more

Thank-You everyone. I really like the OD-2, and you guys seem to like the zing and chill so I guess I'll have to get all of them. :)
The best part about all of those is you can find them all for way less than $100.

You have no idea. This isn't a joke or some machismo thing, but I [for lack of a better word] batonned it tip-first into the back of a chipboard-backed cabinet, with a hammer to the butt end, to cut a hole for TV cables, after it cut up a bunch of carpet and foam. The lock slipped on the very last whack of the hammer, but up until then, I seriously abused it to a ridiculous degree. A stupid test, but that thing stood up to much much more than I would have thought. Having it as a back-up EDC is actually selling it a bit short.

you need to read the entire thread before you simply blindly post you would have seen that not only did I give him specific insight on one of the knives he was looking at but later he goes on to say that is the one he wants but everyone else seems to love the other two so he is going to get all three, I simply told him to go ahead and get the one he wants since he will get all three over time. Again, you are in no place to criticize anyone if you can't even read one page of posts.

Yeah, but the stupid tests are the ones most fun to watch! I think I might have to pick one up now! I want to see a pic of it! I think this is going to be my secondary edc now!

I went out of my way to state that I didn't mean it as personal criticism, but rather an issue I have with that sort of post. I did, in fact, read the whole thread, which is why I tried to make it clear that it's only posts that show no discernable intent to help that I take exception to. I know that you meant to be helpful, but there seem to be too many posts on too many threads that reflect an "attitude" contrary to that spirit. If anything, I chose a poor example to make my point, but I believe it's still a valid point.

No more hijacking threads from me, I promise. If I feel like addressing an issue again, I'll start a dedicated thread.

The Cryo is a great knife, but for me I want a knife that'll be lighter then my main EDC knife. The weight of a knife for me isn't a problem if I'm getting the knife for my main EDC knife. But, I could switch the Cryo and Skyline around and have the Cryo be my main EDC and the Skyline be my back-up (I think I'll just do that). That way I'll be able to have two great knives for under $100. Then, if I feel so inclined I could treat myself to a 3rd back-up EDC knife like the OD-2 and still be around $100. I'm excited.

Back up EDC? Most definitely an OD-2. Get the black blade if you can they're limited edition.

If cost is not a problem - Spyderco Chaparral although the price for that is 3 skylines lol. But its a remarkable secondary blade.
How dare you tell him to get a Spyderco in a Kershaw forum:mad:

my next two folders will be non-kershaw/zt. all my current folders are kershaw other than 1 zt. i want to try something different. variety is the spice of life or some such bs.
