Backpack Choice

I always advise friends of mine to search the web for "backpacking" sites, then dig around a bit in their gear fitting and/or gear review sections. Many of the sites know gear like this one does sharp and pointy things.

Stop by a quality backpacking and mountaineering store and get fitted, if that is an option. People get fitted for all sort of items. Why not backpacks?

Daniel,
Forgot to mention...
You might try checking with local outfitters and renting a pack to see how you like it. That way you could try several packs over the course of several trips.
Might be a good way to see if some of the high-dollar jobs are worth it to you.
Like Hoodoo said earlier, they all feel fine in the showroom with nothing in them. Different story after you've put a few miles behind you.
