Backpack w/ CCW...

Only two states in the US w/o CCW are Illinois and Wisconsin. Every other state has some form of it.

Unfortunately, in California, you need to prove how wealthy, powerful and important you are that would make you a target for violence. Average Joe? Good luck.

Kali has easy to get CCW in some (rural) counties, and very tough to get almost everywhere else.

if you live there and want a CCW, i'd suggest investing in a vacation home in one of the counties where it's easier to get. (or investigate other ways of "establishing an alternate address", i.e. find a friend to rent a room from, or whatever.

IIRC, Fresno County issues about 500 CCWs per year. someone who's actually there will have to report on what counties are easier than others. IIRC, Humboldt has a lot too.

for another holster option, www.survivalsheath.com has some nice kydex chest rigs. Rob H. is here on BF, and i know him from another forum.

that would get the hardware off the belt, and some will conceal under a shirt. if you're wearing a jacket it also makes it somewhat easier to get to than wearing it on your hip.

most shoulder holsters probably won't work that well with a backpack because of the straps.

Thanks everyone for the comments so far! I carry a Glock 19 in a Milt Sparks Summer Special II. I carry at 4:00 because my scoliosis creates a small "hollow" right there that will allow me to hide even a 5" 1911 under a light t-shirt with no issues. I'll occasionally carry a S&W 340 M&P in a Galco Summer Special at 4:00.

I actually prefer appendix carry, but can't get away with it very well because I'm fairly narrow across the hips (30" waist). Even a Glock 26 or 27 sticks out. The fanny pack isn't a bad idea, but, like Adaman04, I feel it's VERY obvious if you know what you're looking for. I might try scooting the gun forward to 3:00--not sure if that'll work out.

BTW, the Maxped Pygmy Falcon doesn't use a waist belt. Otherwise, a Safepacker would be great attached to that.

my EDC is a Glock 19 in a UCR from Threat Solutions, on a Frequent Flyer belt from The Wilderness.

i have a 33" or 34" waist and this works well for me at 3:00, even with "normal" sized shirts. plain t-shirt (untucked) is no problem.

some of the leather holsters are VERY thick and add a lot of bulk to what you're trying to NOT show.

heresay beat me to it, but you might consider this Galco shoulder rig. I have one and it's pretty comfortable.
I also use a maxped jumbo knock off for short trips/hikes.
