Backpacking Blade(s)....

b11 and leatherman. Nothing else is needed, and even that is probably overkill.

Much agreed. As hard as I would try, I'd have no use for 5 different knives. I'd rather impress myself with the ability of one or two good tools. That's just me YMMV. Have fun doing it.

Main reason the F1 isn't on the list, is these are knives I currently own. Figure something I have should suffice, so no "need" to buy more right now:)

Right now I'm leaning toward the B11, Leatherman, and maybe one midsize and one small fixed blade, and scratch the folder. I really like my user .27 ASH SE, so much more compact & lighter than my NMSFNO. The B11 is probably gonna bump out the NMSFNO.

If my friend flakes, I may do something more laid back, we'll see.

Out of those...
- B11
- SS5
- Leatherman Wave

Keep it light so you have room for a pistol.

My outdoor Quartet consists of the following...

1. Busse AK-47 (Clears brush as good as a machete and chops as good as an Axe = 2 tools in one, plus it can baton anything)
2. Silky Big Boy Folding Saw (makes short work of sectioning dropped trees with it's 14.5" blade and aggressive teeth)
3. Busse OJ Warden (Just got this but it's already become my favorite for fine work. .145" thick blade takes a nice thin convex edge and when paired with the AK... I really don't need a bigger blade)
4. Leatherman Charge XTI (has all the tools I could ever need in the bush along with a quality 154CM blade as a backup)

I've never encountered a chore that these 4 can't handle.

The ultimate backpacking blade is the Choil-less Anorexic Boss Street, but good luck finding one. :p

Otherwise, I like the original Lean Mean and a sliding Fiskars (10") saw.

With weight in mind, I've moved away from the big blades for backpacking. Car camping is a different story.

So my vote is for...

Boss Streets Proto.

... and a lightweight saw.

3. Busse OJ Warden (Just got this but it's already become my favorite for fine work. .145" thick blade takes a nice thin convex edge and when paired with the AK... I really don't need a bigger blade)

I also like the .14 Wardens for backpacking. I use my Snake/Satin Warden the most out of the Wardens I own.

The Basic range for me just ticks all the boxes ... your B11 and any of the good small knives would be my choice ... I hear great things about the Vex ....

On a different point .... I am often in your dilema .... which ones to choose ????

Maybe time to thin the herd a little ....

I don't own one (yet) but I'm surprised that a KZ(2?) hasn't been mentioned. I would have thought that it would be a good single-tool replacement for a GB axe and a larger knife, as well as a machete role which I haven't seen mentioned.

The KZ's are great but for an overnight backpacking trip there are lighter offerings which work very well ....

BWM or B11 is all anyone needs for anything!

Two is one and one is none.

.....of Greg's list;

B11
BOSS Jack
BAD
Food preps uncoated for boiling.

Two stainless bottles and a good pot (zebra or snowpeak Ti).
