Backpacking companion

My Mora 2000 is a great backpacking companion. Lightweight is one of the key ingredients for me when backpacking. I also use a Triflex every once in a while but I hate the sheath.

Yes, Spyderco Pacific Salt. It's what I carry. And it's barely used. I like how lightweight it is. Lots of cutting power from serrations. Rust proof. Long blade.
I don't perform "bushcraft" when I backpack though so your needs may be different.

Spyderco Bushcrafter O-1
BHK ( Now ? Strong horse knife maybe?) Bushcrafter FFG version in O-1

one of these two is in my emergency pack ( BOB I suppose)

Mora bushcraft or a BM 162 if you want something a little more "beefy", I prefer the 162 over the Mora, just has a more solid feel to it.

I think it's Battle Horse Knives now. Not sure what LT is calling his new stuff.

Edit: He just went with L.T. Wright knives. Going to miss the blind horse logo

How about a Titanium Backpacker! :D

The Backpacking, Camping, Fishing, Hunting, Boating, Diving, Survival, Back Country, Mountain Climbing, Every Day Carry Knife and more!

Do you want a fixed blade or folder?
Fixed blade you can't go wrong with a Mora as mentioned, or maybe one of the knives Daniel just posted. =]
Folder, you can't go wrong with a Spyderco Endura, Delica, or Stretch. If you want a better steel, look at the ones offered in ZDP-189.

See above. Daniel Fairly's Backpacker in Titanium is awesome. Weighs nearly nothing, and self-sharpens with the carbidized edge. Great Kydex sheath too. And you can't beat Daniel's customer service. Highly recommend.

If you're going with a mora I'd go with the companion mg. You don't need the thicker ones. The companion is nice and light. Other options would be an opinel, svord peasant knife or maybe the izula 2.

Sheath Knife one of my "ESEE-3's on my Belt & in my left hand pocket the Delica ZDP189 & I am set to go to the Mountains or the Lake & take on just about anything here in Tn.!!^^

I've done a lot of backpacking and had very little need of a knife. I mostly carried a Gerber LST and it worked fine. Most backpacking people go self-contained so there is no need to cut down a forest to build a condo for the night. We carried our own tent and backpacking stove. We might occasionally have needed the knife to open a food package.

If I was going right now the best thing I have to carry would be something like a Delica. If I was going to be doing a lot of backpacking I might consider buying an Endura, Stretch or LW Manix 2.

Manix 2 LW. Good size blade and handle, very lightweight (2.9 - 3.0 oz), but very durable. Great one handed ambidextrous operation. New version can be had in S110V, and would not need any sharpening pretty much no matter what on even a longer trip, so no sharpening equipment is needed if you were concerned about that additional weight. I can also recommend any basic Mora if you were going to do some light bush-crafting duties. I keep a Mora Companion Heavy Duty clipped to a Camelback among some other basics for some day hiking myself. The Heavy Duty is reasonable, and not stupid thick or heavy.

an interesting folder I recently picked up is the Opinel #8 Outdoor...definitely the oddball of the lineup, but I think im gonna order a couple more for my packs and tackleboxes
