Backpacking Cookset Recommendation

Gotta keep it real low regarding flame control. And..keep the food moving around pretty much continuously..or at least often. Easily manageable then.

just thought the "frying pan" would come in handy if needed.

I'd say if you don't have eggs, bacon, etc, then don't bring it. In terms of an emergency use to cook a cut up animal, then your pot will do.

P.s. All I bring is a MSR kettle for boiling water, then put water into pouches(dehydrated food) or cup for coffee, or if there is snow I use it for extra water. Side note: I still find it faster/easier to use a filter when there is a stream near by.

I always use a filter(I've surely got aprox 8-9) if the opportunity is avail. A zillions times easier then anything else for drinking water. Whats left? Boiling? Yuck, what a PIA and also wastes fuel. Hot water... yum. Also have to rely on dipping. Iodine? Double yuck. Also a PIA since you have to wait on it to start working..and also have to rely on dipping to collect the water in the first place. My point is about dipping, is many many times when up higher in the mtns, the ONLY water sources are very small as well as shallow. Sometimes only large enough area(1"x1" or so) to hold the Acorn(the thumb size thingie you toss into the water. also houses a small prefilter). Hell, I've pumped from a horse huff print more then once.

In contrast 'cooking water', since your boiling it anyway..can be cooked straight from the water source(of course it would have to be in pot dipping range).

Then of course theres rain water, and typically that's safe to drink immediately. Can't depend on that tho.

Eggs are a PIA most of the time, so not very often. I usually get precooked(saves a ton of fuel) sausage and/or bacon..cook it a little bit in the skillet..and then pour my just boiled water into both the coffee cup/mix and straight into a pack of strawberry oatmeal and then mixed and eaten directly from it. Works fine. Been doing it for 20 yrs and never ever had a leak of burn myself.

I like the skillet for brown bread or a tortilla. turn it upsidedown and over the flame. Lay the bread onit.
