Backpacking Fixed Blade?

Ok I must admit I usually hate the harpoon spine but I think the hogue. It might be the best looking one I have seen. The down fall of so many knives is the sheath which it sounds like this one might suffer from the same problem. I really liked how solid my esee sheath held the blade. With that said my esee 4 is not even close to the retention as the izula. Again thanks for the replies some great looking options.

Great looking knife. I contacted them about possibility of a better sheath, and was told there is no plan in the near future.
That is a real issue with them. Especially the XL. Someone will be making one soon. I lack patience so I made my own.

How important is carbon steel to you. White River makes some dandy knives designed just for your purpose. The White River backpacker is a very nice little knife.

My preferred backpacking pair is a CRK Professional Soldier (carried a few different ways on-body) and Victorinox Farmer, none of this fits your criteria, and Pro Soldier discontinued.

So, if I were in this situation, and fits budget, I may look into Winklers; or as already suggested, peruse the makers work here and contact someone whose work aligns well with what you're looking for. I'd still also pair it with a Vic Farmer or Pioneer X or whatever, I prefer w/ suspension clip. That can end up getting most of the actual service while backpacking. GL and interested what you choose.

David Mary David Mary can fix you up. I believe he has some knives in the works in your size range in 15N20 (high carbon). If not, he frequently uses AEB-L which is stainless but absolutely superb.
Came here to say this, his sheaths are great and offer excellent retention. Plus you can work with him regarding handle materials and blade steel and shape!

AUS-10A, but Cold Steel Mini Pendleton.
~$37 for the CPM 3V Mini Hunter , currently .

Great little compact fixed . Full length handle , but thin . Blade ~ 2.75" .

I keep one with a large fire steel . Works very well as a striker .

You could do a lot more, wood processing etc , moving up to a 3V Master Hunter , 4.5" blade , full thickness handle .
