backpacking forums?

That's why I don't like backpackinglight. I could ask for opinions on air and someone would say they enjoy air as much as the next guy, but just can't justify the weight.....

Whiteblaze and Backpackinglight have their gram-weenies, but they are good counterpoints to this forum which (IMO) tends toward the 'very prepared' theory of backpacking and gear selection. Maxpedition may make excellent, well built packs, but they would not be my first choice when hiking a blazed, maintained trail.

thanks mikeal! and i agree with you on the maxped stuff, great for edc but as backpacking i still like an internal frame 70l bag

Don't ask them for an opinion as to .357 vs. .44 either. But you can still read and garner a lot of good information.

Hark! Its there!

hey joe what is that blue plate thingy?

The backpacker forum appears to be unmoderated and there are a couple of first class Adam Henrys over there that seem to piss on legit threads for their own amusement. While weight-obsessed, I have been favorably impressed with the folks over at BPL. Disagreement seems much more civilized and there are even reasonable discussions over guns, fires & knives.

I wasn't surprised that they didn't show your knife in detail. A machette would have blown their minds unless you had a trail maintenance crew patch on your doorag.

I'd like to see them do an article on backpacker's knife choices. They'll have the perfect chance for multiple interviews at Damascus this May. They are known to show up there with a booth.

I am trying to find a way to get there this year myself. It looks like it would be a blast.

I'll be there. Also, they (not me) are working on a fixed blade backpacker article right now :)

I hope Kristin has a hand in that article. She has skillz!

Oh, and that thing with snaps is a folding bowl. It looks like a Coleman. Good answer for a compact bowl since it folds flat to go in the pack, isn't heavy and can do duty as a cutting board.
