Backpacking in the cold/wet months.

The older I get, the more stuff I need, and the less likely I am to hike and camp.

I can get a LOT more stuff in the truck, and just park beside the camp site. :o

I resemble that remark.:o
I'm just trying to relive a little youth with my boys.................. it's gonna make me old!;)

OMG did I learn a bit over the last couple days. One is that I am in no way, shape or form built to carry 50 pounds 6 miles, another is that a 30 degree bag doesn't protect you from extremely cold, damp ground and another is that Outdoor products Firefly Back pack is not a deal at any price. Many other lessons, but I'll post those later with pics of the beautiful hike.

Looks like the weather cooperated, photos were great, and looks like you had a blast. I was surprised how little snow there has been over there. There was only a dusting atop of Mt. Zion last week. What would you leave out of your pack next trip?

A different pack. It's frame snapped in the cold and the boys carried my stuff back out.
A different sleeping bag. 30 degree was not warm enough.
Different tent. Almost 10 pounds killed my quads.
Both Busse knives were used extensively, but could have made due with the BATAC.

Plenty cold, but yep no snow.

I'm used to being the mule for a big tent too. I just bought a hammock that I'll take for some trips and should save me about 5 lbs of weight - screw my buddies, they can bring their own shelter. The other idea if you need a big tent like that is to make someone else carry the fly/stakes/poles and you just take the tent itself.
