Backpacking Sharpeners? anyone?

I don't carry a sharpener. I carry a second knife. It doesn't weigh much more than a sharpener and I think it's nice to have redundancy.

I don't generally carry a sharpener, but I can put a hair-shaving edge on my knives with my Fallkniven DC-3/4.

DMT Diafold works great as a field sharpener. Your choice of grits. I prefer regular/fine but you can get coarse/regular.

i always have 2 knives on me :) when i go hiking its 4 knives and 2 DMT diafolds one red/blue and one green but i am in need of a new green so i ll get the green/white

the white will be mostly useless in the field as i ll not need to be shaving but if i would need it least i ll have it too :)

here's what I came up w/ (my knives are all convexed)- this small kit, took a pieces of strop leather and glued it to one side of a small paint stirrer, the other a small section of mouse pad- the strop is loaded w/ compound, the other side I use w/ the sandpaper - I carry 200-1000 grit- the entire kit (including ziplock) weighs 1.1 oz

I also carry a small Fallkniven D3 diamond whetstone (in case I've really messed a edge up :)) it's about the size a stick of gum and weighs about .5 oz

I carry a cheap dog bone style, triangle ceramic sharpener with me in my travel pack or hiking pack. It's either a Lansky or Gatco, I can't remember, but I know it didn't cost more than $15.

It's about three inches long and has rubber stoppers at each end. It may not be best for blades over seven inches, but I have touched up my RTAK with it... it was awkward, but it worked.

I usually don't carry anything with me as I don't expect any of my "go to" knives to suffer from edge loss from simple backpack trips & through hikes. I do strop the edge on my jeans leg or some leather of my boot though.
