Backpacking this weekend: Fishspears, tent setups, squirting blood, oh my!

Great pics Joe. I like the fishing spear, I was thinking about trying out some of the Honey Locust thorns I brought back from Illinois for the same thing. Just out of curiosity did you use an awl from a multi-tool to bore your holes or what?

Right on, Joe - that looks like a blast. Thanks for sharing the pics. that speary looks wicked cool!

I went in on both sides of the hole with a VOX wharncliffe while the wood was green, before I cured it in the fire. After curing it in the fire, I then put the thorns in.

Marty Simon has a good looking spear similar to this.

Joe, what were you using for tick prevention?

BTW, the picture of the tripod was to show what you didn't use in the picture before?  :D

Doc

:) You got it! I don't know why I included that picture in there. We'll just say its because its green. :foot:

As far as tick prevention goes, I didn't really get any up there. They were down in the bottom lands, but even in the thick of it, I was surprised that I didn't find any. I had permanone on my socks and pants that I sprayed on a trip back.
