O.k i been doing alot of backpacking on the eastern side of the high sierra mostly from lone pine area. I realy need to get out of LA and hit the mountains for 5-7 days. But this time i want to go on the western side. Does anyone has any ideas of good trails??? Something that would take 5-6 days or backpacking. I would take a loop or in and out same way.. The only thing i want is as few people as possible to see on the trail...

If you were asking about Utah I'd know plenty of places but since it's Cali I have no clue. Good luck finding what you are looking for. Hopefully someone that knows the area will be around soon to tell you.

Sasha, what you want to do is email a good friend of mine who lives in Lone Pine and owns a hiking/climbing store there. If anyone can give you some good advise on that area, she can. Her email address is kastlelund at earthlink dot net. Replace the "at" with the proper symbol, and do the same with the "dot."

thanks guys i have already emailed John... Started to work my drying food for the trip.
Dawsonbob i shall email her as well thank you...

Sasha, it's a drive north for you but take a look at the Tahoe Rim Trail circling the lake. Pretty good elevation, not a lot of water and not many people at all. Desolation wilderness would be another choice.

Sasha,

I've backpacked out of Mineral King extensively. Also the area around Huntington Lake/Courtright Reservoir. My phone number should be on one of my recent e-mails but I'll send it again.

Evolution Valley could be a nice week long trip if you want it to. BTW it is beautiful country and bring your heavy bag b/c it gets cold that high at night...VERY nice though, well worth the trip.

Cheers, Shane

Dave i shall call you today. Been having trouble posting on here for some reason..
Ramm9 that would be a long drive. Might do it later on this year. SS Dragonfly, I heard about the Evolution Valley before. Would it be a loop or in and out same way??? How many miles would it as well???

Sasha - check your email. I gave you six really good options on the west side.

I wasn't really thinking about Evolution Valley because I have gone there from the east side. I did it last year as part of a loop from North Lake to South Lake. In at North Lake, over Piute Pass, down to the San Joaquin River, up Evolution Valley, Evolution Basin, over Muir Pass, down LeConte Canyon, then up to Dusy Basin and over Bishop Pass to exit at South Lake. I posted a bunch of pictures of this route. They can be seen here:
