Next trip will be to the G.C. again. It will be 110-120 F and it's monsoon season around Nevada and Arizona too. I don't know for how many days but it will be a trip to remember. It will be a backpacking trip around the colorado river and then back up. August 27 2008.

have fun! bring back lots of pics!

but most importantly, stay safe. sounds like it could be potentially dangerous with those conditions.

in this heat, how much water do you plan to carry? don't want you to dry up and blow away. Pat

2 Liters will get me down. The colorado river and the many little streams around there are easy sources. Hiking out of the Bright Angel Trail has 3 water sources and a few streams.

No need for quilts and heavy cold weather gear. I was there in May and it was about 75 F at night.

Leaving tomorrow, I will try to post a gear picture or two from me and my hiking partner.
It has been in the 80's at night and around 100 Degrees F in the day. Monsoon season too, did I mention I like a little suffering?

Sounds like fun. I was there a few months ago. Really don't like the heat much but I will return in Fall. Funny thing is you don't get thirsty in the dry heat. But you drink and drink anyway as you know you need it. I need to get out.

Hey man have fun! Sounds like your kinda trip! It was fun talking to ya yesterday, give me a ring when you get back!

Sure Tony. As you may know already, my phone lost reception about 2 miles out so by the time I got back it was about 11 pm your time.

Be safe bro! How much food are you taking? Wouldn't that cheese just melt down in that heat? Interested in the knives you bring...besides the sak!

Cheese would be fine but maybe a little melted. I plan on eating it the first day too.

The SAK is not mine.

Summer sausage and cheese is my kids favorite when camping--a couple of weeks ago camping we brought some cheese and it melted down a little-still good though! If you don't mind me asking what type of water filter to you use?
