Backpaker Magazine - three best knives for survival

In defense of Backpacker, Gerber is a big advertiser, so they may merely be corrupt.

That is the point. :D
Just look on BLADE magazine cover. They need something for every issue. Sometimes it is great knife, sometimes - not so... But inside - it is allways praised :D

Yeah knife magazines are the WORST.

Root around in the forums some and you can get a far more balanced review than you can from any knife magazine.

Now there's a thought.

(How is Spring down there? We had a freeze May 26th. Gonna' be a short growing season.)

I was an avid backpacker when I was younger and didn't have a wife and kids. These days we car camp and enjoy being comfortable and well fed in the woods. I pick up a copy of BP now and then and have definitely seen a decline in the content of the whole magazine. No I don't generally agree with their gear suggestions when it comes to blades, but I do like their sections on local trails and cooking.

Last time I was camping w a group, we had a few people sharing our campsite who were hiking the AT and I was blown away by their super lightweight gear BUT when we started to dish out food ( we had plenty and shared w them) they let us know that their typical trail dinner was ramen noodles with a slim Jim chopped up in the bowl.....ugh.

I wish there was a decent magazine that covered family/car camping topics and gear reviews!

This. I see all kinds of ads in that magazine. I honestly use their reviews more as a way of finding out about gear options. If I want an honest unbiased review of a product I usually find one on youtube. It seems obvious to me that they rarely ever have much negative to say about products, probably because they won't want to offend their sponsors.

I used to subscribe to Backpacker magazine in the 90's, and I think a mag called "Outsider" or something. I dropped both after my first subscriptions because they pushed a far left environmental agenda including lecturing e about packing out my poop. If a bear can sh*t in the woods, so can I.
