Is it hust me, or is everyone grinding their knives backwards? the serrations on spydies, f.e., should be on the other side of the blade. Bencmade crkt and others all make them this way. I think that emerson is the only one done for right handers..What's up with this

Unfortunatley serrations are ground on the mark side of the blade because it looks better in photos. As best I can tell that is the only advantage to them being ground the way they are. -- Charles

Dijos, you have confused me a bit. Emersons are ground on the left side of the blade, which is better suited for left handed people.

I´m not a fan of serrations but I´d like to mention that I´ve used a couple of spanish and japanese knives (fixed blades) that had serrations ground symetrically on both sides and they were fine (much better, IMHO, than one sided grinds).

Yes it is all too common to have blade serrations ground on the wrong side (the left side). This has been discussed before. I don't buy any of the excuses for this. If you are cutting through the middle of a material it is better if the blade is symmetrically ground. If you are slicing material off the end of something (like a slice off a loaf of bread) it is best if the edge bevel is towards the slice you are removing. This will let the blade run true. The primary excuse I've heard is that a cut might curve towards the user's left hand if the bevel is on the right side.

i see that charles marlowe was the first to reply to a serrations post? i find that odd after seeing no serrations on his knives. Charles, please tell me you are one the few custom makers that (secretly) puts serrations on some knives? It was a very nice surprise when i saw a folder with serrations from KIT CARSON!! Especially after i contacted a few makers with the serrations question and they all said no,no,no, don't do serrations.

I was wrong about eki, and wow, chas. marlowe! I love your stuff! If I get some real money together..
