excellent forum! me and my brother just discoverd you guys here. great reading and ideas.

do any of you guys read the backwoodsman magazine? for any of you that don't know about it, it's full of great articles about hunting, camping, guns, fishing, survival, knives and just simple backwoods idea's it's a great mag and just wonder if there was any backwoodsman reader's out there:)

I just got my most recent issue from my local Wal-Mart. I lucked out because they only get a few issues each month, and they sell out quickly. Charlie Richey has been publishing this magazine for well over twentyfive years, and it always has some great information in it. And Charlie is a great guy besides!

I never miss an issue. One of the few publications I buy without leafing through it first.

Backwoodsman sometimes has some good articles, and when they do, I buy them. I prefer Wilderness Way (even though I've been critical in the past, and still am at times).

Two other great publications are Primitive Archer and The Bulletin of Primitive Technology.

well i see several of you guy's read backwoodsman. i was just curious if any of you have ever wrote any articles for the mag?? me and my brother had a couple of idea's just haven't got around to siting down and writing them out.

anyway thanks for the replies.

Charlie always welcomes submissions. Even the shorter stories and hints. You won't get rich off of an article, but you'll have fun, and get your five minutes of fame. Consider pictures and drawings for illustrations too.

J.C. Just drop Richie a line he will approve the articles if they are of revelance to the mag. He just approved 4 for me to write over the next couple of monthes.

I love it and Backwoods Home, both 3 plus years. I'll have to try some of the others listed here.

Backwoodsman is a neat magazine. I get it off the rack when I notice it there - it tends to be stocked rather sporadically. It is one magazine where I actually keep the issue rather than tossing it when I'm done reading.

Backwoods Home is good. I was a long time reader and fan of the original The Mother Earth News magazine, at least before the change of ownership. Backwoods Home is written and edited by the old TMEN staff, and is a 'returning to the roots' of TMEN. They've even recently reopened the old Eco Village site.

Another good series of books from last century (I think they are still available) are the Foxfire books, originally written and edited by Elliot Wiggington and his school classes from Appalachia. Lots of old time skills, lore, and interviews with mountain pioneers.

Welcome to BF! I'll have to give that one a look. Does Barnes & Noble sell em, or would it be more regional?
