I've got three months left to train for my return to the Grand Canyon, so I've been working out every day since getting back from vacation. This "backyard hike" is a 3 min. drive from my front door. Comes in very handy when you're in a hurry to get to the trail.
Bayo Canyon is several hundred feet deep and has trails on both sides and on the canyon floor. I hiked the southwestern slope today.
Dingus, my 100 lb Ridgeback, is always with me in the back country.
Dingus runs ahead but never loses track of me. Sometimes I hide from him, but he never fails to find me within 30 seconds.
Somebody's got a pretty bad slice:
Good to be back in my home territory.
It's hot today and Dingus is panting hard:
The trail eventually descends to the bottom of the canyon. The Cerro Grande fire of 2000 missed this area and there are plenty of Ponderosa Pine:
