This is a knife I've had for years, maybe 20 or so. My dad had it in his collection and gave it to me when I was about 12. It has been sitting unused for about 5 years, because I used and sharpened it so much, the point was sticking above the handle when it was closed. So today, after putting a Jerry Hossom style polished and stropped edge on a machete, I ground the blade stop down about .05 inches, and voila, when closed the tip is completely covered. Well, I thought, that went well so why not thin it down some. I've got these nice new quick cutting belts from Fastenal, and the edge is quite thick after all those sharpenings, so I'll give it a try. Now its uglier than any knife I've seen in a while, but I laid the blade flat to the belt and took out the hollow grind. One side went all the way to a zero bevel, the other had less than 1/32" of a bevel left. Ground at 26 degrees inclusive on an 800x waterstone, and finished on the Sharpmaker. Hair whittlin goodness, but ugly. Did I mention UGLY? Oh well, its the first one I've done. After the Vivi Cara Cara pass around, I think my Cara Cara is looking for a place to hide, so the same thing doesnt happen to it.
