BAD BALISONG SALE

In the past month I have made a couple of pretty good deals acquiring new balisongs.
My latest is a horror story. I was scanning thru Ebay when I saw a BM42S listed. I knew Ebay would pull it soon, but I bid on it anyway. There was even a picture of a brand new BM42S to view.(the item was listed nib) Ebay did pull the auction. At the time they pulled it I had the winning bid of $50 dollars. (Just to recap the knife was listed as a Benchmade Model 42S NIB with a picture.)

I offered the person $60 dollars for the knife hoping he would sell it anyway. He agreed.

Two weeks later as I anxiously await its arrival it came. I opened up the package to find a beat up old Jaguar Model Hc-23S.

I contacted the man and he said he had never mentioned that it was benchmade. He also said that he stated his knife only looked like the picture he listed. (Don't we all wish Jaguars looked like the BM42S)

His last email stated that a purchase is a purchase.

My thoughts are that a dishonest person is a dishonest person.

This is my side of the story only.

I would like to protect my fellow knife collectors. So here is his name and email address:

Thanks for the warning Chung! It's too bad when someone has to misrepresent his item just to make a few extra dollars.

Sorry for you loss Chung! One lucky thing though... It wasn't a couple of hundred dollar loss!

Chung, I found out a long time ago to read the description very well, and to e-mail any questions. Good luck in future ventures.

The copyright notice in the lower left, WOW, or World of Weapons, is that of our gracious host. Mike puts that mark on all of his pictures for, among other things, just this reason. When you see that mark, you'll know where the picture came from and you'll know that the picture is not of the exact knife you're bidding on. I also have taken to marking all of my pictures before posting them because I got tired of people grabbing them and using them to misrepresent their auctions.

BTW, what is Mr. Antzes Ebay screen name?

You can use the email name on Ebay. But his name on Ebay is flutie717 He has 60 feedback's but no active auctions. His rating is pretty good, but he has about 5 complaints that the quality of the item does not measure up to his claim. Thanks, JohnR7

Anyone here live in NY?? Maybe you could pay Mr. flutie flakes a visit and get what ChungSan payed for (didn't pay a whole lot for a 42 but he was still promised a 42).

BTW Chuck, it doesn't seem all that hard to take the url out of someone's picture, I don't know, maybe I'll try it sometime.

The fact that he would sell a NIB BM 42 for $60 would have set off major alarms with me.

See this really didn't set off an alarm with me. Now I don't know Mr. Antzes, but let's assume he needs some quick cash. He could have decided to sell the 42S for alot cheaper. I emailed him a couple of times to confirm what knife it was.

I don't know, I think if it were me I'd drive up to his house one weekend and leave the Jag implanted in the top of his car.

If the US mail was involved in any way -- if you used the US mail to sent him a check, or if he used the US mail to send you the Jaguar, then it's mail fraud.

Of course a copyright notice or URL can be editted out. Mike's logo in the lower right-hand corner would come out with ease, maybe fifteen minutes in Photoshop to make it look nice. But, that's more time and more skill than most of these second-class sellers want to spend. Furthermore, it would still be obvious when the two pictures were put next to each other what had been done. "Borrowing" a picture is one thing, but removing the copyright notice is quite another. That doesn't happen accidentally. It shows that the person deliberately and with full awareness of what they were doing, stole the picture.

Furthermore, a lot of sellers actually don't even have space to host their pictures. Several time's I've seen them just link the pictures on my site right to their sale. Of course, then, they don't get to edit the picture at all. In fact, when I see that, I usually edit the picture myself.
