:thumbdn: I was really screwed over by "Not your Moma's Knives" and I want the knife world to know what hacks they are. Not only did they sell me defective knives ($400.00) Microtechs that are defective, they did notthing to resolve the issue. And, these clowns double charged me for shipping because it was a Military APO, and they said this was "Not in the USA". Well, it does not cost a dime more to mail somethng to a Military APO! Also, I was suppose to get free shipping because my order was over $120.00. They suck, and :thumbdn: Microtech sucks! :thumbdn:

your post should be in the "good, bad, ugly forum". you should pm/email a mod to move it for you. which actually will get your post much more exposure, and warn more folks of the bad dealing you got from this vendor.

Microtech is putting out junk, and calling it high quality. They attach a high price to complete the con. Sexy with a nice finish, but ask anyone that has bought one, and tried to use it for more than a few days. They fail to function. If you are lucky, it won't lock open when you are out somewhere, because then you are stuck with a fixed blade, and no place to put it. Again, who are you kidding? People who have actually bought this crap know it's crap, and we spent $400.00 to learn the hard way. And...now...you are trying to do damage control to continue Microtech's con & cash flow. :thumbdn: You should be ashamed. :thumbdn:

Sorry for your experience.

I've been carrying/using a UT6 and an Amphibian on a daily basis for close to 10 years now.

Except for basic care/cleaning/sharpening, they've been problem free...

My UT's have been trouble free for a little over a year now.

Sorry youve had a bad experience but manufacturers do have bad products sometimes. MT will stand behind their product and repair it but you have to go through the dealer. That's their policy. I know for sure that the hollow grind and bladehq will assist you in getting your MT repaired if you purchase from them.

Every Microtech I've ever owned has performed flawlessly, including an Ultratech work knife that survived 2 years of set construction for a professional theater. While it's regrettable that you had a bad experience, that experience is not universally shared by all Microtech owners so I'll thank you not to speak for me. While Microtech's ethics and customer service are now considered negligible, they still make a quality knife.

Maybe you should concentrate your wrath on the dealer who sold you the knives and not the dealer who is trying to help people who have bought Microtechs and are now having issues with their customer service.

Despite the ridiculous "hardcore/tactical" marketing hype, DA OTFs are essentially finicky, noisy, fragile novelty knives that perform best when lightly used in a reasonably clean environment unless you're prepared to disassemble them (or flush them with solvent) with fair regularity. A little tape adhesive, some pocket lint, or a bit of grit sucked into the works while retracting the blade and there's a good chance that it's maintenance or repair time.

I sympathize with your frustration, but your experience in no way matches mine. In spite of the above, all of my MT OTFs have functioned flawlessly from day-one without a single hiccup. I've been carrying and using my '04 UT often for almost eight years and it has never failed to fire, retract or lock-up firmly. I just take a second to assure that the blade is clean before retracting.

Sorry to hear, my experience has always been that more than a few knife vendors are crooks, but not all...Microtechs can be very cool, but for that kind of dough you can land yourself a Glock, or even a decent 1911 v some of the higher end MT's. I wouldn't dish out more then a couple hundred bucks for a folding knife no matter who made it, and regardless of how it opens itself up. Many of the Microtechs I've handled were of decent to very good quality, all were dishonestly represented as "combat" weapons, as are many many folding and OTF type blades. Good luck...

A few years ago, when I first arrived in Afghanistan, I lost a screw on the pocket clip on my Benchmade 9100 auto. I emailed Benchmade, and they sent me a full screw kit for the entire knife, and replacement pocket clip. Now that is service! I've carried and used that knife hard for more than 10 years now. It is a tough son of a gun. On my first Afghan year bonus, I bought an Ultratech and an UTX-70. I dropped about $400.00. Both are Microtechs are complete crap. I emailed Microtech, asking for help. I have serial numbers, and the knives are dated. I have Police Creds and DoD identification. These guys don't want to help you. They have already screwed you; they have your money. They should go out of business. Now they are into guns. Wow. I will never buy anything, new or used from these crooks. They are crooks.

Double billing to a military installation?

That's just plain despicable.

No kidding, it's a US zipcode. I've had a couple vendors try that crap on me too, and one BF seller say he wasn't going to be responsible for insuring the shipment. In all cases I refused to fork over my $$$.

Not anymore, the gun industry ate them up and spit them out...They went into bankruptcy trying to manufacture a carbine that was so ridiculously overpriced that they, well, went bankrupt...:) I own several of their OTF knives, their level of quality ranges from decent to very good, however everyone of them was marketed fraudulently as a combat weapon, no folding/retracting knife is a combat weapon, they may/may not be good utility knives, and or used in a last ditch bit of desperation to save your ass, but combat weapons they ain't...

MT customer service still stinks, in person (BLADE show or via email or phone). Individual dealers are NOT MT.

BTW, why is this thread not in GBU?

I still recall being totally ignored at the MT booth at Blade. Saturday afternoon, no other customers, display cases half full. Eight employees standing around chatting and looking at transport boxes full of inventory.....I guess trying to decide what to do with them. :D
And Jr's hottie g/f wasn't there, so it really was a letdown. ;)
Maybe if I'd waved some cash and begged they might have sold me something, but there were so many other vendors who actually seemed glad to see me (like Protech), so I just moved on.

BTW, why is this thread not in GBU?

Certainly could be.
It started off with a very well done explanation of how MT works, and how to deal with MT issues, which seems appropriate for Switchblades.
Then sort of evolved into an anti-MT discussion which could be more appropriate for GBU I guess.
