Bad day

well, i'm heading off to chase some pigs and goats this arvo.

weapons of choice: compound bow and a BFO* knife a mate just made from an old leaf spring.

*(Big F-Off: 15" worth of full convex ground blade.)

KalEl, you should go back and search some more for both of them. Sound like two good shots. I know it is discouraging results so far but I know I would have to find at least one spoiled meat or not. I would just have to know what happened if it were I in the same situation. Sounds like you gave it a good effort though. I think a bow is more than adequate to kill any sized game. I really don't understand why some would find in insufficent? Much less than a modern compound has been used for several thousand years. Good luck and I hope you have an opportunity to find at least deer you shot.

Thanks for your words everyone.

I wanted to stay until it got dark searching but we had to leave and we live an hour and a half from where we hunt and didn't have a chance to go back. It was also 80 degrees out and the meat would have gone bad quickly.

I guess everything happens for a reason. Maybe those deer would have gone through someone's wind shield if we hadn't killed them.

I've felt better about it in recent days. I search as har a I could. Ibclimbed trees for better views, got on my hands and knees looking for blood and got sliced to crap by thorn bushes. I guess I did all I could do. But it still sucks :(.

And btw I used the Rat daddy as a machete to cut through te thorn bushes and it did a great job. And i used it when I got home to break down an old couch. I've never sharpened it, only stropped it on the paper wheel and it still shaves.

Head back and look for buzzards or vultures. Follow under them and see if they are your deer, at least you can examine the deer for any clues as to what may have gone wrong. What broadheads were the two of you using? I can relate to how you feel as I lost a deer as well. It is good you made such a strong effort to find them. Good luck.
