I claimed a knife in PM, paid immediately, and he confirmed receipt and that he would ship soon. A short time later he changed his mind and refunded the payment to sell to someone else. Sounds like they got a better offer to me. Just a terrible way to conduct any transactions here and this was a new member. I normally try to give the benefit of the doubt with a new member, but everything went smooth with the other transactions. The new member D drumbeat5a just makes it hard to want to deal with anyone new to the forum. Anyone else have any thoughts on this subject?

There really isn't much to be said that you already have not done (presuming all is as you said). He should have completed the deal with you. The good side- if he would do this, there may have been other problems to come.
If the seller has a side, hopefully he(or she) will tell it.

He said he didn't see the name or area with payment, but it was included there and here is a screenshot of what I was told. He said he sent an email to ask for my name and address again, but why send an email when all communication was through PM up until that point? And the confirmation below.

I can't say specifically what happened in this case, but unfortunately, he had a second forum account, and because the question of a scam was raised by a member, we ended up having to ban one of the two accounts and make sure that the member was aware of why.

It's "possible" that your intended transaction was a victim of the hoopla that all that entailed. The individual had reached out to me and told me that he had gotten a payment from a member here, (using the real name), and asked if I was familiar. I said I wasn't and he would have to look at his transactions to find out who he had received money from.

My apologies to you if we were part of the ensuing confusion that resulted from our trying to protect the membership from any possible fraud.

I don’t think it was you that did anything. The above screenshot does show confirmation with the correct member name. The part that is the most frustrating is the fact that I was looking for one in that configuration and it was a good price. Used didn’t even matter because I was going to use it myself. It just leaves a bad taste about other new members for little while. I don’t want to lump them all together but this doesn’t really happen to me with long standing members.

I am new to this forum and joined after checking out other similar pages. Because I am selling automatic knives, I am very careful. I have heard numerous horror stories in which sellers shipped such knives to states where they were illegal and paid the price. As such, I felt comfortable with this forum, which Blade HQ highly recommended.

In this case, I agreed to sell the knife to the buyer as they claim. When payment arrived, there was no mention of the item* to be purchased nor the user's forum name. As such, I sent the buyer a message through the PayPal message center at 11:37 AM Monday, July 3, asking which knife they wished to purchase, but there was no reply. As the moderator said, perhaps due to the aforementioned hoopla, I contacted them. Because I had not heard from the buyer after several hours, I issued a full refund, including fees. From my perspective, I erred on the side of caution but made a mistake.

Since then, I have heard from the buyer several times, suspecting me of selling to a higher bidder, not wanting to pay shipping fees, and asking for an honest answer. I have explained to them what I have shared here: I did not sell to a higher bidder, and I don't charge shipping or insurance fees unless the buyer prefers a method other than USPS Priority Mail. To make amends, I have apologized profusely and repeatedly and offered to send, FREE of charge and with FREE USPS Priority Mail, the Italian OTF automatic knife valued at $60.00 and in mint condition and listed here, but he declined.

Although there is no connection between this site and eBay, I have been an eBay seller since 2000, and I encourage readers to check my profile @ https://www.ebay.com/usr/drumbeat5a#tab1
My feedback rating is 100% positive because I am honest and transparent, describe items pessimistically, offer fair prices, don't sell junk, and provide free USPS Priority Mail with insurance and tracking within 24-48 hours (depending on the size and weight of the item.) In other words, I don't scam people.

The message I sent with shipping info and the PayPal payment matched and you acknowledged this in PM. If, for some reason, you have another doubt, why did you contact me through a different method? I sent several PMs over the day and next and never received replies and you were online many times. It’s frustrating. I understand the type of confusion you are talking about, but everything lined up and I contacted you several times and you confirmed receipt. That is the part that doesn’t make sense. You acknowledged receipt and then did all of this stuff after. Seems questionable.

Anyway, it’s done and over. This post is for other members to reference about a troubled transaction. I am only stating my end as it happened and what happened. The screenshot also confirms this.

Anyone who's spent any time here, can relate to your experience here & your frustrations. You've been here a long time, and your stellar reputation speaks for itself. You're 1 of the real stand up member's here.

I have to be honest, when I first read the OP, it was easy for me to be to be swayed and side with this member right from the get go, only because of the respect that I have for this member due to our past dealing here.

Upon reading your very thoughtful response/explanation, I can totally understand your mindset, and that you're a brand new member still trying to figure out how everything works here. I can definitely relate because I made a couple of very big embarrassing mistakes in my first couple of years here myself.

Welcome to BF"s Bruce & best of luck moving forward!

I think you guys are making a judgment without all the facts. Those of you who know me, know I don't jump to conclusions and I have some experience with weighing evidence.

You do what you have to do...but just realize that you may be (and probably are) wrong in pointing fingers in this case. Whether that matters or not is up to you.

The seller may have been too hasty( I would have alowed more time for a reply) , confussed or a victom of circumstances, but I don't see anything sinister here(though it looked so at 1st and can understand the OP thinking so). Unfortunate for the OP, but things happen. I appreciate the seller responding to this thread with his side, and hope his future deals go better.

I'll add
Most are not going to mention the item purchased or their user name, when paying. If you have multiple sales going off at the same price, where you can't figure who the buyer is, you will have to work that out in some way.

There's an excellent thread posted in GKD (by long time reputable member killgar) that the Mod's made a Sticky at the very top of the GKD Sub-Forum (and for good reason):

The fact that you only joined here on June 20th, 2 weeks ago, I get it..... however, I would suggest taking a month or 2 and spend some time just observing the protocol/etiquette and get a better feel for this place....and also spend some time socializing in some of the discussion thread's or areas of interest so others can get develop a sense of trust with you.

I personally should've been lit up here in the GBU for an embarrassing incident in my first year....fortunately the member I has purchased a knife from, I gave him a wrong shipping zip code (Blackend), cut me some major slack, for my regretful actions during the time it took the USPS to trace and finally deliver his package.

As long as you learn from your mistakes, most of the people here are very understanding & forgiving. The fact that you came here and addressed the forum and explained your thoughts and apologized, speaks volumes to your character.

Damascus Blades, is a really good guy; the fact that he's changed the Thread title, exemplifies this.

I am over the frustration. I did not want to damage the seller's feedback with a first feedback rating that is a negative. I did need to vent somewhere, so this seemed the area. Thank you for all who contributed, pro or con, as I know I'm not the only member who feels the need to vent sometimes. I have no hard feelings against anyone. Sometimes just airing the issues out gets me past the frustration. Probably most of us here have been on both sides of something like this at one time or another.
