Bad Experiences with Carrying a Tactical Folder in Your Back Pocket

Never a safety concern but I lost a couple of folders carrying in my back pocket. Started carrying a more traditional pocket knife in my front pocket after that for years.

i had my zt 0550 in the back pocket just once. i wanted to get something quickly so it wasn't clipped. after going down a flight of stairs i reached around and found the blade open and stuck thru the pocket. i'm never doing that again for sure.

No problems carrying a knife clipped in front right or back right, unless I'm in NYC then I carry a smaller knife unclipped. I do make sure that it's the only thing in that pocket though

I am interested in any bad experiences that people have had with their knife opening in their pocket. However to clarify, I am curious about others experiences of having an Emerson or other knife in their back pocket NOT clipped, but rather just sitting in my pocket.

Why would you put a 200$ Emerson in your back pocket and NOT clip it in? Are you trying to lose the knife or hurt yourself? Am I missing something here? The reason they put pocket clips on knives is so that you can secure them into your pockets. If you use the pocket clip, you won't have any problems.

If the spine of the knife is against the seam of your pocket, there should be no way it can open up.

First response nailed it.

After having a Commander open up in my back pocket and slice my hand deep, I'll NEVER carry a folder without the blade against the side of the pocket. If a knife is in my back right pocket, it's going to be tip down like a Spyderco Military or Benchmade MPR, with the blade facing forwards and the knife as far to the right as it can be.

I doubt that many of the people who whine about how the Spyderco Military is tip down only have ever had a tip up blade open in their pocket.

Hello,

Try to avoid carrying ANYTHING in your back pockets.

A back pocket is a Pickpocket's dream, it is very easy for a pickpocket to remove stuff from your back pocket without you ever knowing this.

I speak from experience.

My fear also that is why I only have a knife clipped to my rear pocket.Only at Home.
