Bad Kershaw

i just ordered a chive today...should have it in a about a week....what safety mechanism are you talking about?...any links to pics?

see in this pic all the way to the right is a lonely screw. that is the 'safety' in question. you slide it to lock the blade in. it keeps the blade from opening accidentally.

on my former chive i used it all the time, it did not bother me. my chive was sensative, it would open in my pocket without the safety on. i never bothered tightening it.

on the leek, i do not use it. it will not open accidentally either.

I find that my Kershaw AOs (the only AOs I've ever had) are somewhat less likely to open in my pocket than several of (but certainly not all) of my manuals.

The scallions I've had had that same safety, and for carry, it was pretty useless, but it might be nice if you want to toss it in your backpack pouch or somethihng like that for future carry.

If you don't like the safety on the Leek/Chive you can do what I did. Send it through the dryer on high heat in the pocket of your pants. You'll never see that safety pin ever again. ;)

Now I wanna go buy a Kershaw. Way to represent your company so well Thomas, thanks!
Indeed. As in the thread about New Graham Knives, I consider NGK the gold standard for mailorder knives, and Kershaw is at least tied for the gold standard in the industry, for quality of product, fairness of price, and excellence of customer service.

And of all the Kershaws I own, and that's quite a few, from lower end to top of the line, the most frequently carried is my little titanium/ZDP Leek.

My experience with Kershaw's knives is great but my experience with Kershaw's customer service is awesome.

Living out of US is not always easy to deal with CS of products with their central in US but Kershaw always anserwed my questions fast and covered the product warranty with no problem at all.

Kershaw service is the best in the industry. The comments of the OP are unfounded.

Kershaw knifes are really good, and for the pricetag... simply excellent.

I personally would prefer the 13C26 to the S30V, but hey thats me.

"Kershaw service is the best in the industry. The comments of the OP are unfounded."

I agree.

Thomas,

Thanks for the personal post! I didn't expect that and it means a lot. As for my Kershaw's, I only have the Chive and Leek (I'll try taking the safety off). I'm going to carry around the Chive for the next few days and see if the AO and action loosens up a little.

Also, I should probably appologise with the tone of my first post if it was aggressive, I'd had a bad and very long day by that time (never the best time to post).

Thanks
Roger

I love all my Kershaws. Initially I was a bit turned off by their extensive use of 440A, but have found it holds up well. The designs are spectacular and I'm always amazed at the attention to minor details, fit-and-finish, and overall build quality of any of their knives for the price, especially considering they're made in the US.

Just a quick word about Kershaw.
I bought a Ken Onion Rainbow Leek in Dec. '02 just for a Dress Knife
I carried it maybe 25 times (weddings, funerals, events) and it was shown more then used.
On Jan 14th I sent it in to KAI, just for a tune and sharpen (it was getting very stiff) Today, my knife arrives back. Perfect!! 11 day turn around half way across the country!!!

Kershaw, THANK YOU!!!!!!

I remember how I felt when I bought my first Leek. The fit + finish of this $40 knife was outstanding. Keep up the good work Kershaw and thank you Thomas for being on these forums.

If you look at my join date and the amount of posts you can tell I mostly keep my opinions to myself but this one I had to chime in on.

I own 6 Kershaws and have not had an Issue with any of them In fact they are for the money the best I have had in my Collection.

Customer service is OUTSTANDING. I have delt with buck and found them to be a nightmare. 3 Phone calls and never had it solved. Spyerco was good, but KAI was by far the tops. I had lost the clip to a whirlwind and they not only sent me a replacement but she sent 3 of them with a note saying that I need extras. You see the clip was lost by me and it was a really stupid way to loose it.(Iwont go into details) But this woman was by far the friendliest and also the funniest CS I have ever delt with. We talked for 10 min about really nothing and she was the reason I bought the other 5 and last week I picked up the Mini Cyclone.

So give the company a chance.

Thomas ya got great Cooworkers there!!!!!!!!!!

I"m on my fourth Kershaw, Hawk, Starkey Ridge, Storm, and this latest Avalanche I bought off of a fellow Forumite is quite possibly the best of them! I do wish they'd re-issue a newer Starkey Ridge... great knife.
