Bad Monkey Hollow vs. Flat

The reason I chose the bad monkey was a few preference reasons. I really like the cf scales, and the shape of the handle and the shape of the blade. Ya it's not as good of a steel as the 154cm that emerson uses, but I can put a wicked on edge on 14c28n and it holds reasonably well. It does need to be sharpened a little more, but if I look past the steel, for me personally it was a no brainer. I do love Emerson's, it's just really hard for me to decide which blade shape I want because I like so many, and they all have their uses. To me the bad monkey just looks like a great all use blade shape. Also like I said above I really like how this company supports the Southern Ground Camp for children. But again all of this is mainly preference, I will buy an emerson soon I'm sure, I just decided I wanted this knife more right now.

The koozie, bracelet and key chain still come with them at the moment. Something we are throwing in there for now from what i understand.
I have seen several other things floating around the shop, as far as packaging. Not sure what I can say and what I cannot.

Look for a few new models this year from us though.

BTW, Hillbilly, I hope you enjoy your knife. I know we enjoy making them.

Dont be too quick to lose the short pocket clip, you will love it.

I'm sure I will really enjoy the knife, and I will give the clip a run for a while, and hopefully I will like it. I really look forward to some more knives though. Are you going to be using the same steel?

Knife Dragon,

Why Bad Monkey over Emerson?

My opinion only, but I think that that the Bad Monkey I had was every-bit as good most of and maybe better that some of the many Emersons I have had (and I am a big Emerson fan). The quality of construction was top notch and the materials were all very high end. As I said earlier, the lone let down for some is the blade steel, but I personally don't have a problem with it. If you look at the price point it is very comparable to Emerson. The Bad Monkey is sized more like a larger or even Super Emerson which makes its value higher than if you compared it to a 7 or Horseman or other smaller Emersons. It also has CF scales and both liners are Ti. Lastly, and I know this is a stupid reason to buy a knife, but I like Zac Brown and country music in general, and I like to support southern industry (and any new knife-makers for that matter).

Bottom line is they are all great knives. Get the one you like the looks of, but don't knock the Bad Monkey until you try one.

to hillbilly & jstrange , both very good and honest answers. btw i don't knock the bad monkey. i like it actually and yeah i'd like to see a better steel too. but what you said about most users and the steel of their knives is spot on imho. thx for the replies gents

No problem. Just to clarify. I wouldn't pick a Bad Monkey over all Emersons, but I would over some. I like them both. I was just offering some ideas as to why someone might choose a Bad Monkey over the competition (not just Emerson). Also, when I said don't knock it until you try it, I didn't mean you specifically, just the generic figure of speech to all who read my post. Sorry that wasn't clear.

I have been patiently holding my breath since I put the BM in my pocket. Hurry up though, I'm turning blue.

I wish I could say more...

Pretty sure I can say the new G2 Grandaddy's are out. They had them at shot show anyhow, and you should see the stacks of them that I am sharpening.

So I received my bad monkey yesterday, and I am very stoked on it besides a few things. First the short clip was loose. And it wouldn't even touch the knife so I had to bend it, and secondly the knife is pretty stiff. Definitely cannot be flipped open. Do you know if this will change? I hope it gets smoother, I will take it apart soon when I get a chance and polish the washers.

If you got the tool kit you can loosen the pivot bolt just a smidgen.
I usually tweak my pocket clip when they give me one to wear around for awhile to test. Preference

I did get the tool kit, and tried the pivot screw but that didn't work so I'm going to take it apart and polish the washers and hopefully it breaks in after a while.
