PSA: This guy (Max Tribble) scammed me on a trade+cash on Reddit.

Made a trade deal with Nighthawk88420 for his Spyderco Tuff + $70 for my Quiet carry iQ on 11/27/20.

1. I shipped out my knife (USPS: 9500115627770332576329) and made a PayPal f&f (Yeah, I know. Lesson learned).
2. He said he didn't make it to the PO but will do it the next day.
3. Reached out to him on 11/28 to see if he shipped out the knife.
4. Received response on 11/29 that he hasn't and will do it the next day from work.
No response since, no knife, nothing.

Stay away from this guy. Hope he gets banned from BF as well.

I hope he sends the knife. As you said about PayPal F&F - lesson learned the hard way! I almost never do business with anyone who asks for F&F payment, but if I really, really want something that they are asking F&F, I just pay via G&S and add the freakin' PayPal fee: 30 cents plus 2.9%. It's cheap insurance! In this case: $2.33. Of course it wouldn't have covered the knife you shipped, but at least you could probably recover the money.

It's good that you are at least outing him so that the word gets out. Maybe you'll save someone else.
 
Does this guy have a bf account?

This was a reddit trade so I am wondering if the user name is his reddit username or a reddit user name?

Either way, thank you for your post and I hope you get your property.

For what it's worth, in the future, avoid dealing with anyone with 88 and 420 in their user name (unless they were born in 1988).

If that's the case (and its confirmed) then I'd say start posting the guys name / personal info / address so it stays up and registers with google results. Repeat behavior of this type has to be confronted.

re avoiding 88 / 420 people -- yeah, that's good advise for life.
 
I never knew 88 had a sinister meaning. Learn something new on BF all the time. Strange the 88 is also their most famous gun. Numbers!

Halfwits have a tendency to place outsized importance on the mundane or coincidental. If you ever look at famous conspiracy theories, you'll find a similar behavior.

In any case, I strongly suggest OP post this guys personal info, send him a link to this thread, and await a response / fix to the problem.

Jesus Christ man! Have you gone MAD!? A member since 2011 and STILL did F & F on a trade deal. Hard to imagine.
Oh well, kiss your knife and 70.00 goodbye. I wish you luck in getting any kind of resolution at all.
You could publish his info and someone in the community could pay him a visit, and knock on his door. Maybe.
 
Just reread the thread -- this dude is on parole? What in the actual F***? Call this dudes PO and let them know what he's up to. I'd bet there's a prohibition against him owning "dangerous weapons" along with a prohibition on him stealing.

EDIT: I don't think this is the same guy. Unless he's trading knives from behind bars.

I contacted Max Tribble about the Spyderco Police via email and he said he sold it to a dude named Mike. Then hvacmike86 emailed me and gave me a sob story about Christmas shopping and g&s putting a hold on funds and I felt bad and sent $80 f&f to elduder86 (his wife's account... or something). I have done a ton of trades and all the red flags were there, but I got scammed. Feel so dumb. I was going to try charging back at the bank, but I don't want to get my Paypal killed so I'm just gonna eat it and never, ever do f&f ever again. I wish the mods could mark max's posts with something or remove. I should have done more research. Got too comfortable.

Yes, it is the same guy.

I do have is personal info including address and email. Is it allowed to post in public here on BF?
