About a month ago I was seduced into a minor and somewhat disastrous knife buying frenzy on Ebay (see my Damascus thread :( ) Included in the knives I bought were 2 cheap Cold Steel models - The Spike and the Roach Belly. The knives cost me $28 and $11 respecively, which at the moment doesn't represent a lot of £££s. But I copped for a $21 handling and shipping fee on top, and worst of all because the dealer included this in the value of the package there was a customs charge of £13.25 (not a great deal less than the cost of the knives themselves!)

Despite the shipping and handling fee it's taken until now for me to receive the knives, and worst of all one of them was shipped in a really dangerous condition. After opening the Jiffy bag they were posted in, I opened the lid of the box containing The Spike and slid it into my hand, only to be stabbed because the knife had been shipped with the point completely exposed! And with a perfectly adequate sheath sitting alongside it!! Closer inspection showed that the point had gone through the lid of the box, the envelope, and worst of all, through the bottom of the rucsac I had used to carry the package back from the sorting office! :(

I'm unsure if whoever shipped the knife was too stupid to ensure it was packaged safetly. Or that they didn't bother to look inside the Cold Steel box before shipping it. Has anyone else had experiences like this? What on earth is wrong with people, I wasn't badly hurt, but this package was a danger to everyone who handled it.

It's a constant problem with eBay.

I bought a Bark River Forrester - a LARGE, HEAVY, SHARP knife. The vendor shipped it in a nice zipper case but with no other protection for the point - like putting it in the heavy-duty sheath or wrapping it in any way. At some point, the box was probably dropped (What a surprise!!) and the point of the knife went dead-center through the zipper, through the packing, and 1/2" out of the side of the shipping box. Somehow there was no tip damage and no blood on the box. And this was from a dealer.

He, of course, put it all on the USPS.
