Review Bad Review - Fällkniven S1(Suvival Lilly)

she obviously needs a cold steel, strongest sharpest knife, or something to that effect.:)

One of her favorites is the SRK. She's got a video review of it somewhere on her channel. I've been watching her vids for a couple years, though I admit I watch not so much for educational purposes but just because she's so damn adorable.:D

She really thinned the edge out?! That would explain the crazy damage...

I missed the poster you quoted earlier...

When did she say she thinned out the edge? She talked a lot about the edge geometry but I don't think she touched the edge ever, which was part of the problem...

She didn't. She did mention the fact that you could sharpen a V edge onto it to make field sharpening easier, but she said she hadn't sharpened the knife at all since getting it.

edit: At least that's what I got out of it.

That is what I thought. It is important when we are being critical of a review we get the basic facts correct.

Like I said in the other thread on this subject, she should have sharpened it a couple times to get past the factory edge. It may not have chipped so bad. This is a well known thing with falk can be true for other brands.

I was thinking about that too (sharpening away the factory edge, a la Mora, etc.). Hopefully she'll sharpen away the damage and give it another try in the future.

Yup. A little tlc and that blade will be looking just fine for a working knife (handle not so much but it will still function fine as a handle). Still not sure I would use it like she did again though.

Hi. About the Lady, I liked some of her early videos when she was still named “alone wolverine” or something like that. They were nice, kind of “innocent” and “fresh” :) and it was a kind of novelty for me to see a European Lady doing outdoor/survival stuff on YT. The big names are still mainly American men :D. As the years went by and the followers massively increased, as usual, the videos became more and more professional but also less “genuine”, at least this was my impression. I remember one of her early knife was a Boker Rold and she seemed to like it :). Then she seemed to leave the “survival” genre and turned more into the “bushcraft” style. Her gear preference has changed and, though she didn’t properly start to "bash" survival gear, she clearly manifested her new preferences for the bushcraft gear and philosophy. In the meantime the sponsor came in, etc. Overall I think she knows some stuff and could probably survive sometimes alone in the woods .

About the knife, I don’t own a S1 but I own both the old F1 and A1 (before the Pro series). In my opinion, also the middle brother is a good knife even if I consider it too big for fine task and too small for camp chores :). The micro chipping is old news, I had the same on the A1 the very first day out in the woods . Sent in for a professional sharpening (at that time I wasn’t good enough to do it myself) and never happened to me again. Never had an issue with the F1 instead. About the handle, well, it’s still plastic, an hard one, but plastic :). If one starts to slam a trunk on the handle while batoning, something can get damaged. No surprise for me :D. I split wood with the A1 and the F1 regularly but for tough/big wood collection/preparation I couple my F1 with a small axe or a folding saw and I always have been an happy camper.

This is more than microchipping IMO. I've personally beat the hell out of my A1, batoning all sorts of wood without a singe tiny chip.

Giving the knife a "bad review" because it didn't held up being smacked against rocks just isn't fair at all.

Problem is that she used the factory edge. She should have known that a few sharpenings are required before any reasonable assessment can be made on edge performance. But I like her. Her accent is cute.

Nah, she used it like a cold chisel then complained about the edge??
That's not how that works

Watch her island video, she batoned it with rocks, scraped the edge on the fire steel and used the edge to scrap food off rocks buried the edge into the dirt. Of course it's going to chip.

In here cold steel SRK video she doesn't abuse it like this.
