I will try and get some more scans up...it is a little harder to scan the bigger knives. :(

That's the brick chopper by the way...it just finished clearing a very large section of brush. Lots of chopping, and lots of rocky soil, the knife takes the abuse.

Nice Pix:)

When I saw that blade come up I thought "that looks like an old convex edge profile" and judging by the older style bolster I'd guess it is?

Looks just like my 20" AK:)

Good pix. My scanner continues to paint in the yellow line.

Uncle Bill - did you try cleaning the scanner (from my email a bit back) - my scanner started doing the same thing, and cleaning the mirrors with 'bottled air' fixed the problem for me.

It does have a convex edge, great chopper. The knife is actually a tin chirra...give me a half hour or so and I will get some more scans up.

Beo, I got the tip and thanks -- just haven't had time to try it yet. I may get caught up today or tomorrow and will see if I can tear the scanner apart and clean.

I didn't know that tin chirra was actually a different blade, I thought it was a generic term for three fullers. But yes it is an AK ;), sorry for the confusion :).

The first fuller is at the top of the blade. The second is directly below that, it actually has a pretty deep scallop. The third is the beginning of the edge, it is slightly hollow ground. I will try and get a scan of the fullering. I am probably just confused about the tin chirra thing :) :p . This is what I mean ;)

I don't know much about them myself.

I'm pretty sure (kinda;)) that the AK's have one fuller (at the top), and the Chitlangis (for example) have two, and the Tin Chuirra have 3.

I think I am putting my foot in my mouth ;), or maybe using the term too generaly  , if you would like I could send the knife out to you to play around with, that is about the only way you could see what I mean. I am serious though, email me if you want to take a look at it Rob.

Matt :footinmou  :p

I am probably using the term too generally. I should say that the knife has three indentations :D , I think ;). Somebody clear this up for me.

Yes I just looked at it, but I am still confused. Is a tin chirra that specific blade? Or is a tin chirra any blade that has three fullers? The FAQ isn't helping me much either ;), especially this photo

My AK has the same fullers plus one that starts at the edge (it is hollow ground), either way I think I am a little crazy ;). Nice knife by the way.

That's ok Matt:) I think we are talking about the same thing but with a different idea of what makes a fuller a fuller:) With the convex grind found on the old khuks I don't think you would call the profile concave or scalloped and therefore wouldn't be able to classify it as a fuller. In my understanding a traditional fuller is pounded in with a hammer, not ground. but I'm sure some are ground in nowadays. To tell you the truth, I'm now more confused than ever!:D

One of the fuller experts will be around to sort it out I'm sure.
