I listed a Spyderco Vallotton as NIB and a CRKT BladeLock as used. Victor14 offered me a lower price for both and I agreed. He paid and I shipped immediately.
Upon arrival, he sent me an email at about 4:09 eastern time and contacted me to say that the Vallotton was not NIB and had scratches on the bolsters. He accused me of intentionally misleading him and lying about the condition of the knife and attempted to renegotiate the price.
Here is the text of the message:
"I just received the package. The spyderco has a few scratches and dings on the bolsters SO it can not be considered like new. If you check completed listings on ebay for the last 10 days, you will see that dealers were selling new ones for under $154.00 sipped so, I was quite disappointed with the condition of yours when I received it. How do you want to handle it?"
I received a second email from Victor14 within three hours. It was rude and asked if I intended to respond. I didnt receive either email until I checked my email about 8:30 that night after getting home from work.
My reply was:
Victor14 said he would send the knives back and then asked for my address the next day, which seemed odd since it was on the package. He then asked me to refund his money as soon as he gave me the tracking number. I said I would refund the money when I got the knives. He did send the knives back and they arrived at 2:30 -- again, while I was at work -- and he again sent me an email saying:
As soon as I got home from work, I processed the refund.
Moving forward, I listed the knife for sale again, describing the scratches and situation (but not mentioning the previous buyer's name or calling him out):
I just got this email from Victor14:
Conclusions:
Seller beware.
The knife, as I hold it in my hand has light scratches. I dont think Victor14 put them there. They might have been there when I shipped the knife to him and I missed it, or they might have gotten there on the way to him. In any event, the scratches are minor and I wouldnt consider them a big deal. Obviously, Victor14 does and I gave him back his money.
I took his original message, the tone of them, and the fact that he sent two messages within three hours as a shakedown. It seemed like he was blowing up a minor point to get me to send him money. As things evolved, it didn't seem like I was dealing with someone calm and reasonable. Perhaps I was wrong.
Bottom line is that in over 100 transactions here, I have never run into a situation like this. The guy keeps accusing me of lying and wont let it go. After everything has been settled, he is still sending me emails.

I just got home and checked email to find two emails from you. You didn't receive a reply to the first one in the three hours before you sent the second one because I hadn't seen it. I'm surprised that you would send a snotty email asking if I intend to respond after just three hours.
If you are unhappy, send the knives back and I will refund your money. The knife was sold to me as new. I didn't carry it, and didn't notice any "dings or scratches." New knives sometimes arrive with dings and scratches that are received in transit to the knife retailer, to the end user, and in this case, to you.

According to USPS the package was delivered at around 2:30 pm. Please advise if I may expect the refund today.

I traded for this one from another forum member and thought I'd keep it, but the urge to buy something else has already bit.
I never carried the knife or used it and I understood from the previous owner that he had never used it. I just sold it as "NIB" and had it returned by the buyer who complained about scratches on the steel bolsters. I didn't think there were any scratches when I shipped it and what I saw when I got it back looks very minor -- perhaps some marks from shipping.
In any event, I have tried to capture the detail as best I could in the attached photos. I would describe it as new with some light scratches on the front bolsters.

I just got this email from Victor14:
I resisted the urge to post it in the thread but it is quite upsetting for you to say that I shipped the knife back to you not in the same condition as I got it when you KNOW that I got it with those "minor" scratches and did not even have it in my hands more then a couple of minutes to just look at it before contacting you. You are the one who inaccurately described what you were selling thus costing me time and postage supposedly because you did not pay attention before listing it for sale and failing to mention important facts. I sugest you change your description to reflect reality and leave out untrue and baseless accusations. Your character is at stake.
