Bader belt tracking problem

My 7 year old Bader has seen a lot of heavy use and has worked great. Recently however it has been impossible to control belt tracking. After making sure everything was tight i noticed that the idler wheel had a worn groove in it. I replaced it with one on my other machine and that fixed the problem. I am not complaining, like i said the Bader has served me very well, but i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Also has anyone ever re-faced one of these, if so do you have any advice on getting it done?

Check and see if it is the wheel face or the bearing that is causing the problem. Bearings don't last forever.
The wheel should be easy to either replace or re-turn the face. I would suggest you replace the bearing at the same time.

A quick fix that I seen on a lot of Baders it to just run some black tape around the center a couple of times. Just enough to create a high spot in the center of the wheel.

Stacy, The bearings seem fine but i will take your advice and replace them since i have it taken apart.

Frank, Thanks for the info.

Dave, Although i am in the process of re-facing the wheel, i will remember that trick.

Thank you,

You just send the tracking wheel back to Bader and they will re-crown the wheel for 20 bucks. Comes back as a new wheel. No need to buy a new one.
They are aluminum and will wear from the edge of the belt over time.
I've done mine maybe 6 times in 10 years.
I have two and keep one in fresh shape to rotate out the wheels.
