Back from the Badger Show in Janesville, WI . . .

Hung out with Danbo, Mongo, and Dave. Show & Tell with Danbo around is always fun :)

Awards were:
Best of Show: Peter Martin (for one of his wild bug/knife sculptures)
Best Fixed: Don Hanson (for the knife he posted a pic of two weeks ago here. You really couldn't tell how BIG it was from the picture!)
Best Folder: Don Hanson (I'm sure I saw a pic of this as well here on BF somewhere)
Best Art/Fantasy: Kevin Cashen (ring dagger--absolutely magnificent)

I picked up a Christopher J. Smith folder, and a Craig Camerer ring-handle bird & trout with carbon fiber scales.

fun time, as always!

a good show, indeed. nice to see ya there tho brief.
I ended up with a nice surprise for the wife- a handforged Kay Vikstrom (finland) clever for the kitchen. beautiful burl handle in the puukko style and a 7.5" hi-carbon blade.

Hey Jeff,

good to have seen you there!

I think that buying your wife a knife was a great idea. Funny, though--I offered to buy my wife something too (one of the knives that Danbo was selling), but for some reason she wasn't enthusiastic. Alas, I am deeply hurt . . . :( :p

Though I must say it was thanks to Danbo that I now have that Camerer knife :D

That's a nice little ring knife. I was impressed with a couple of Danbo's Camerers.

Wow, you guys are quick! I too had a blast hangin' with Danbo, Summerland, JW, and Dave. We had some good show and tell amongst us. Of course, Danbo travels with about 3000lbs of quality customs. I didn't get much, but ended up swapping Camerer's with Danbo. I'm pretty happy with my choice. Danbo, his wife, and myself found ourselves back at Famous Dave's BBQ for our yearly "pig-out" (yes, pun intended). My daughter, who is almost 4 yrs. old pronounced my new Camerer as "a really really really nice knife Daddy". Kid has pretty good taste. JW, good score on that cleaver... time to do some cooking!
I agree with Summerland, those Hanson fixed blades were absolutely stunning in person. Kevin Cashen brought a handful of gorgeous knives that sold within seconds according to Danbo. It was good to chat with John Greco. He was offering some great knives for a song. His Scagel style knives are even prettier in person. I had one tiny knit-pick about this show though... I really was hoping that someone would have a Becker necker on hand, but there wasn't much in the line of production stuff at this show. This show really is becoming quite a good show for customs. Make sure you mark your calender for this one next year folks.

A really nice show. My wife and I enjoyed our selves. Good people, good fun and good sales. Thanks to everyone.

Hiya Don, I kept cruising by your table... got to chat with your lovely wife a bit, but you were out carousing every time. Just wanted to say, your fixed blades are stunning. I hope you do more than the occasional FB. Hope to see you at the new custom show coming up in Chicago in Sept.
Mongo

This was only my second knife show ever. I ran into Danbo there. He invited me to sit in his booth and showed me many of his wonderful blades. Thanks Danbo!

Lou

Hi Mongo, I'm sorry I missed you. I can only stand behind my table for so long before I need to get out, walk around and visit with others. I hope to see you at the new Chicago show in Sept. I will also be at the Blade Show.

Don :D

The show was great, even though I wasn't feeling that well. I wouldn't have missed it though, unless I was on my death bed. Hanging out with the guys is a big part of why I love knife shows. BBQ Saturday night was special too.

Like already mentioned, Kevin Cashen was sold out by the time I got there. Except for the big dagger/short sword(which might be still available). I didn't have 2 grand laying around, so it wasn't coming home with me. I did take a picture of it though.
