Bagwells are made for hard work....

I reported a few days ago that after a long wait I was finally blessed with two Bagwell knives. Well, the day before yesterday I decided to try them out. I have no safe queens, my knives earn their keep. I tried them on four deer I killed. I forgot to take a sharpening stone with me so the knives had to do the work with the edges they brought to work. The knives were: A Bagwell Bowie, a Bagwell Damascus hunting knife, a 440V T. Bose, and a D-2 R. Bose. The two latter being old hands at this kind of work. The two former, new for me.

All the knives performed flawlessly. They cut like razors to the bitter end. The Bagwell hunter has a tip that doesn't quit. However, what really astounded me was the Bowie.

(Disclaimer, not for the faint of heart.) The last deer I shot fell neatly as the others but when I went to pick it up it tried to ram me. I only had the Bowie on me and I had to put this animal to sleep fast. A swift swing of the Bowie to the neck of the deer cut it like lard and that was the end of that. I couldn't believe how smoothly and deeply the knife went through muscle, cartilage, sinew, arteries and veins. The Bagwell Bowie is as deadly as a buck-shot loaded shotgun at short range. Amazing.

Nice pile of meat you've got there, backstrap city. Yummy! I'd love to have a Bagwell bowie like yours. That's one awesome knife.
Congrats on your Bagwells and your deer harvest.

Nice knives and deer. I'm curious though--where can a single person lawfully bag four bucks??? Maybe I need to consider relocating. ;)

I can't speak for Panama, but up here (Alaska), you can, in some seasons, take up to seven blacktail deer or seven caribou. Both hunts require either an airplane or a boat to get to the areas though.

Great outing for you and your blades

As always Juan wishing you many a happy adventure with your new blades

Big pics looks like ya hacked thru alot of joints

perhaps a warning on this thread would be nice. not everyone enjoys being tricked into seeing slaughtered animals.

Those are harvested animals not slaughtered.

Great pics! looks like a great trip. I still hope to get the money up for a Bagwell one of these days.

Nice pics, great knives, Juan.
Good to see your Bagwells again, especially with that haul.
Thanks for sharing.

Hey severed

I respect everyones thoughts on hunting even those that do not aprove of it

But I just hope that you are a vegan or the like, someone who does not use any animal prouducts what so ever. That means no leather prouducts or prouducts with animal byprouducts

I just hope you are not one of those hypocrits that sits there in a leather jacket eating a cheeseburger making comments about how people should not hunt but it is okay to eat truly slaughtered meat and fish hence from slaughter houses and comercial netting

So I congradulate you on your vegan lifestyle and commend you for speaking out on things you do not believe in

While I do not disapprove of hunting, I still do not wish to see the grizzly, horrific, mind scarring images of it. Hence why I said it would be nice for a warning in the thread title alerting people to the horror contained with in. thanks

Commercial netting is far from "slaughter" as much as the environmentalists want you to think otherwise. Incidental takes of marine mammals and sea turtles are actually quite low and bycatch reduction devices are mandatory. Commercial fisheries are more regulated than any recreational fishery or hunting. Sorry to go off topic.

Real nice harvest of venison,it makes me hungry ! I really love the Bagwell Bowie, what an iconic knife ! I would like to own one someday.

I've only read Mr. Bagwell's book, know nothing more than what he wrote about proper fighting blade on the book.
But this episode tells me that his magics are really working on his blade.
Geometry and physics for edged weapon.
This is a beautiful story.

Thanks for sharing, mendezj.

This is not a thread about the knives, it is a thread about hunting, so I'm moving it to the new Hunting & Fishing forum.
