Bah On Filework!

Humbug, still better’n any I’ve ever done
Every time I try it seems there’s always one
Or two or even five that get over run
By slips or bad angles, all the mistakes under the sun
But anyway, all in good fun and one of these days
We all hit that home run

(hat tip to rhymedb. com)

The above two posts need to be translated for Dan who only speaks in rhyme:
Miden -
Dan, as far as filing is concerned
you still may have some to learn
but you did a pretty fine job
and for that you get a nod
Take strokes that are light and breezy
This sort of thing just isn't easy.
Mike

Danke42 -
Probably where filework first was attempted
Someone gouged something and loudly lamented
Then the thought, "stupid me, I'm such a jerk"
"if I do the other side I think I can make it work".

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
to each above post
but the ones that rhyme
amuse me the most

I will try to say this in rhyme,
but to me - this looks fine.
pray tell, to me instruct,
just what was it you did destruct?

Also, why we must speak in verse,
For it seems to me we should not seek fine word
But should be mostly undeterred
In putting money in our purse.....

Did you work from top to bottom or bottom to top? (Based on your picture)

If you look down the sides of the filework where it meets the straightedge of what would be the scales, you will see the differences in the distances from vine to edge, and the vine does not flow as smoothly as it should. The thorns are not uniform also. Right now, it can be repaired with more work, I'm waiting for some #5 cut needle files to come in to start the final work on it.

Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery , not a problem, I enjoy seeing peeps filework, and you have a couple there I'd not seen before.

From the top down as I have it in the pic.

That would have been my guess...do you find as i do, that the closer you get to the “end”, the more you have to take a break and regain your breath? Lol. As i near the final strokes, i have to remind myself not to be in a rush. Cause 3/4 of the way im thinking, “this looks good”, and then bam...mistake. Lol.

However, that filework you have done looks great!! It could possibly be “saved” by having the “vine” smoothly taper from thick at the top, to thinner at the bottom. :) That would look good! :)

I know you didnt ask for thoughts, so mine are unsolicited. Lol.
And hey, you are miles ahead of me in your filework. :) Id be interested in a PM chat if you are up for it sometime.

I thought it might be something like that. Ouch, NOT easy. I don’t think I will be trying anything like that anytime soon!

For me, when doing this type of work I too will take a break frequently as the level of attention I have to maintain for good results is both stressful and tiring and a strain on the eyes.
A thinning vine would look very nice IF I could pull it off, but I'm no Dwayne D!
I don't consider myself ahead of you at all skills-wise, and no prob with unsolicited ideas or a p.m. sometime. Might take me a day or two to respond so don't think I'm avoiding the p.m.

I know you can do it. :) Slow and easy...labour of love. You got this.
